Newbie needs persuading

hello everyone, I've been a lurker for a while now, and have been thinking about buying my first rangie. i've fancied one pretty much since i took a ride in a friends parents over 25 years ago.

I have been torn between a late td6, or going the whole hog first time and getting a tdv8 vse. Ive seen a couple that really take my fancy around £35 for 07 reg with 40k on them. (is this about right price wise?). Is there any difference between 56 & 07 plates?

I am not worried about the cost of running one, but am a bit worried that I will be disappointed if it proves to be unreliable etc and ends up costing a fortune to keep repairing. my last car was a 535d bmw which was a nice car to drive, and was really well built - are range rovers comparable quality wise or am i opening myself up to a load of headaches etc?

any reassurances / top tips / persuading greatly received.

p.s. can anyone point me in the direction of some tasty looking pics to help me decide?

Thanks

Alex Thumbs Up

Personally I prefer the drive of the TDV8 over the TD6 as I feel it's more responsive.

If your budget stretches to it! If not tbh the TD6 is still once mapped a decent lump.

I don't think there's a difference between 56 and 07.

The problem with the RR is that they are prestige cars so dealers and parts are prestige prices.

I don't however think it'll be much dearer for servicing or running than your BMW.

If you need convincing then go and take on out to remind yourself just how good it is to drive something with so much presence.

Try searching google images for RR's ...... Guarentee you'll want one then !!! TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

nice pics chaps! really like the dark colour interior. Ive been to land rover this afternoon - had a good look around a 08 which i imagine is the same as the 56 i have seen advertised. i think i have even got the nod of mrs atc so looks like its time for a good haggle. keep my fingers crossed i should have some pics of my own soon! Cool

Perhaps we should build a FAQ. There is a reasonable one on rangerovers.net but it tends on focus more on the earlier examples that came out.

ATC, I would go for a decent test drive or do what I did, do a Land Rover Experience. If you ask Land Rover nicely, they might even give you a 3 hour experience for free. The instructor gave me the option to tailor it so I could do a nice long test drive before taking the car off road.

There are some forum members going to the British indoor 4x4 show at Bingley hall next weekend, if you fancy a look you could pop along. I'm sure members would be happy to let you have a peep. Hopefully we should be able to park in a group so it should be ovbious that the members have arrived Cool
