I'd like to pose the ubiquitous question of what tyres would you put on your winter wheels other than Vreds. I know Vreds are considered to be the best winter tyres but they may not be within everyones budget.

Nokina WR's get good reviews. Thought I'd try them out.

I've found that the M&S (mud & snow) tyres cope with most of what we come up against. Have had wrangler and Pirelli and both were fine. Travelled 1400 miles to austria thru the worst snow and storms for years, and was one of the few cars to make it.

As we are talking about winter tyres does anyone know which has the stronger sidewalls and better dry rough road capability - Vreds or Nokians?

It's a genuine question. I was going to buy a new set of wheels and all season tyres but I've decided to keep what I've got and spend the money on a new set of quality winter tyres but they must be able to cope with dry unmetalled roads as well.
