Almost replaced the head gasket!

For a month or so the car occasionally drops coolant over night (puddles on the drive),

Two weekends ago however i topped it up only for a mile down the road the coolant warning beeped, Seems the leak had got bigger.

So i dropped it off to my local garage who immediately said its going to be the head gasket Rolling Eyes

A phone call an hour later confirms this and they claim they cant do it however the "specialist" up the road can at a cost of £1k.

Anyway i took it to the Land rover specialist of MY choice in Preston and explained it to them, After two days of testing it turns out to be a split pipe at the back of the engine close to the PCV hoses.

So £280 later and also new PCV hoses its running sweet as a nut and is getting 1-2 better MPG !

I just wondered if i hadnt taken it else where would they have charged the £1k and just fixed the hose Whistle TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Nice one!

I'm going to check my PCV hoses this weekend - I've got a Saab 9-5 and they suffer from the same problem, did them about a month ago.

Well I bet the "specialist" was K Motore.

Had my mates RR for months and could not fix it, charged him £300 + on labour, he spent about the same on bits, that they said he needed. And no fix.

Took it here: http://www.independentlandroverservices.co.uk/

1 day later fixed, no parts required Very Happy

Got his labour costs back from K Motors though.

There no more specialists than my fish are.

Took it to Independant Land Rover which is off brook steer just before Aquaduct street lights.

would recommend them if you need work, not the cheapest but certainly worth it. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Have used K Motors for mail order parts for my defender many times and they have been great for both cost and service. Not used them for fixing the car so can't comment on that.
