Ipod/Iphone dock.

I've thought about a prper Iphone kit for my car for a while, but always been put off by the cost, for example, I saw a kit that replaces the cd changer on the Blitzasfe website, but they want $170 then another $78 for postage, so today in Maplins, I spied this...

Basically, it's a mini-usb powered Iphone/Ipod dock charger with a 3.5mm audio out, and it's almost the perfect size for the small square tray infront of the gear selector.

When I had half the dash to bits a couple of weeks back, I ran the cable from the current tape converter behind all the dash panels so it poked out under the dash section where the air suspension height control button is, so all I've done is just tucked it in behind the dash and plugged it into the audio out for the dock. As for the power, I had a spare mini usb charger from an old fm transmitter which doesn't like to work with Iphones, so plugged it into the 12v socket in the centre arm rest and fed the cable through a very convenient gap under the cubby hold floor next to the 12v socket then under the HDC and Low Range switch panel. All in all, the total cost was a mere £15 and I get to keep my CD changer. So now, no cables on show and at first glance, seemless Ipod integration. Sound quality is alright too which is a bonus. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Just a basic tape to 3.5mm converter, just managed to tuck the wire in the side of the screen, then feed it down behind the main dash centre. Laughing

No, I didn't, but I'm going to change the power lead for a different one as it doesn't charge the phone every time so I'll grab some pics of it when it's in bits. 2006 Mercedes CLS
