water pump coolant leak

So yesterday while checking an oil leak there was antifreeze dripping from the plastic tray, thinking as I have just had a new radiator fitted it must be a hose not clamped up tightly....

Oh how wrong I was Big Cry

Your looking at the bottom bolt on the water pump, that's sticking out by at least 5 to 8 mm! Shocked ( in middle of picture)

God knows how this worked loose...then it may of never been tightened up in the first place. Laughing If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Yes cought in time and tightened up with the ratchet spanner, it's a pig of a job and you must get that tray off to get to it.
Good thing really in some ways, as when the new radiator was fitted by the garage they did'nt even put the hoses back onto the clips on the cowling so they where flapping in the wind!

I'll recheck tomorrow, hoping all is well and no leaks Very Happy If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Hmm looks like the leak was this bit and the bolt on the water pump. Big Cry
It only seems to leak when the FF is cooling down when stopped, not when its running!

What is the part number for the pipe? Im guessing the rubber O ring has perished so hoping this can be replaced?

What size dia O ring?

i have a similar v8, with the same leaks! my water pump 'gasket' seemed to be leaking, so changed it twice, still leaking! i eventually, left off the fan and cowl, to test it up to temp etc, and with a 'mirror on a stick' and a powerful torch, was able to see the cause, it turned out to be the actual aftermarket waterpump i fitted last year, has gone pourous! yes, it weeps fluid from around one of the casting 'webs' very odd! new one on now, and seems to be holding! underneath, the same transmission cooler area 'junction' connector piece, was leaking, but a little wrestling has sorted it, but will keep an eye on it. this three pipe junction piece, can be bought separate for about £30 -it seems to not be well secured, to me. when all ok, i will put my tray back on. lucky its not too cold yet, so i can drain, and add antifreeze at the weekend.

lastly, just next to the loose nut in your picture, is a small threaded hole, (on the pump) which i thought, was a leakhole, but it turns out not to be for anything other than a bracket type 'mount hole' for a different model etc.
i changed my waterpump without removing the crank damper. apart from the fan 32mm spanner, and 'fan tool' only normal tools required. socket set inc torx sockets.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up That 3 pipe junction piece really is cheap and nasty but glad it can be bought separately as its bound to break. Laughing

I'm hoping its the O ring. If it dont work.......burn it!

Update to the leak, as I had suspected the O ring was at fault so thought I would share. If you have a leak at this 4 way junction, clamp the 4 pipes ( I used small mole grips ), split the pipe off the main housing with a small screw driver which is retained with a wire retainer and just change the O ring, 20mm R11 type I used and all sorted. Thumbs Up
