It's not a case of the officers "showing him who he's messing with" as such. Watch the video again- he drives off whilst the officer is stood in the open passenger door. He could've quite easily dragged that officer along the road. Yet the officer remains calm and follows him for 15 minutes. No anger shown and correct police procedure used when he eventually stops.

No sympathy for this driver from me.

this is what i meant about the officers showing who they are messing with - think they decided enough is enough and showed they're fed up of his Censored .

I've only just seen this thread and I want to give my opinion.

This officer could have and should have been deemed unfit for duty and given an ill health pension on the basis of his ridicule based psychological trauma that has arisen as a result of his own actions.

There was no need for him to take his Constabulary to court and seek a large compensation payment. He was responsible for his own action and I believe personal opportunism may have motivated his actions.

I disagree with everyone who says his actions were proportionate. I see very little of the Police conflict resolution model being used here in this vehicle stop or his need to use his baton so many times. It borders on wilful criminal damage.

I speak as a newly retired cop who worked during the Warrington bombs era. A colleague of mine who was shot by an IRA Terrorist did not sue our force for compensation. I did not sue the force for compensation when as a result of my own stupidity I've injured myself and then had to put up with the inevitable jokes and ridicule. I just got on with it.

The cop deserved his ill health pension because he will have already paid in to his pension fund.

He did not deserve that huge payout because he could not live with the ridicule from his colleagues. The ridicule he suffered arose directly from his own actions. When did we stop becoming responsible for the outcomes of our own actions?

Anyway rant over Banging Head

^^ really? An ill health pension for getting the Censored taken out of you at work?! If he chooses to leave his work his pension should be deferred until he is of pensionable age. As you said, he made his own bed. Previously..

Lets be honest, The cops didn't exactly use a lot of force. If it had been the states or somewhere like that they would have been stopped in a much more vicious manner. If it was the PSNI then he may not be so grumpy about it.

TBH i would have taken the case against the driver that caused the incident as the evidence from other reports is speaking for itself if true, never mind the person who leaked the tape... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
