Automatic Trailer Control (ATC) Bailey Caravan.

Hi,

Hoping you can assist.... Just for the very first time towed the caravan from its storage location ready for the new year this Saturday.. (I had to delayed pick up because of all the bad weather this week......)

As in the past with the other tow car - I plugged the pin adaptor in the caravan socket and then plugged in the 7pin black and white sockets..

Usually when I plug the white one in it the ATC... starts by initially a wearing noise and then a clunk.. and green light appears..

This time nothing....

The caravan battery is totally dead, but I am thinking FF Towing wiring as this was also the case when towed by the other car as well - does anyone know what wire the ATC is using..

Does anyone know of a good Towbar specialist in Rochdale/Bury area..

I need to get it fixed asap as not going to travel from Manchester to Peterborough with it not working correctly..

PS - Doesn't the FF make a great Tow car...

Trev

Thanks in advance.. Current Cars

I don't know a particular towbar specialist, but I (and a couple of other form members) use AJR Engineering in Oldham for servicing etc.

http://www.ajrmotorengineering.co.uk/

They have always done a good job for me and may be able to help if you don't get any specialist recommendations

Good luck Thumbs Up 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

it sounds like it is a transposed wire in the adaptor which doesn't correspond to where constant live is on the FF white plug, personally would just get the ff converted to 13 pin, so much easier and buy a 13-7pin adaptor for trailers. As this gives an easier connection and does away with the adaptor. Not too expensive about £90 for the kit as you already will have the towing module.

ATC will power from pin 9 on the 13 pin caravan plug which should correspond to pin 4 on the 12s on the car.

check you have constant live on pin 4 on the car and that that corresponds to pin 13 on the adaptor socket. it may be that the wire from the 13pin end of the adaptor goes to a different place on the white plug than it should. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

As it feeds off the batt +ve if pin 4 on the car is dead ,check that no fuses are blown in the car around the towing relay area in the drivers side boot cubby,

The fact the van battery is flat will have no bearing on it working or not👍 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Update... Bow down Bow down Bow down

Thanks Guys for all the info.. Bow down Bow down

Spoke to a Tow bar Specialist in Bury.... ran it over to him to take a look...

Remembering I have never towed with the FF yet so didn't know what the issue was and as its probably been on about 8 years anyway...

On investigation.. Whistle

Cabling to the both plugs was wet through.. Censored
both relays damp.. Censored

So hour and half hour later... as recommended on here

New wiring and new 13pin plug with two new relays and a shiny SS bash plate
fitted. with a little adaptor to connect a trailer if required

Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry
OH and the tyre well had 1/2 inch of water sloshing around in it..... so drained, dried and will be monitoring over the next few days....
