The key locks the pulling out the knob action, you should pull the knob out then twist, try turning the key the other way, pulling the knob out and turning it. It may be that the bar is stuck in the reciever. A good squirt with wd40 and a hammer may be the way forwards. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

From the handbook:
Maybe a Birmingham spanner is needed to get the tow bar to "carefully lower" ?? You also didn't mention if you heard the "click" ? . Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Volvo V70 P2 2006 2.4 Petrol 170bhp Estate SE MG Midget Mk1 1962 Previous: L322 Range Rover TDV8 3.6 2008; L322 Range Rover TD6 3.0 2002; P38A Range Rover V8 1999 |

I bet you find its still all stuck together. Get a blow torch and heat the lot up on the outside of the reciter and the cooler detachable part should tap out much more easily. Then give it some time with a Brillo pad and then emery paper or 2000grit wet and dry to get the surfaces smooth again. Other option is to just take out the two bolts holding the receiver on.

If you're not going to use it just unbolt it from the bar |

Would the "Solihull Hammer" ie the car's ability to raise and lower help perhaps ?
