RunningCANBUS 501(W5W) sidelights for 6 months - All OK

I put in CANBUS 501 LEDS from HIDs Direct (£15) on ebay about 6 months ago, all is well also passed Swedish (MOT) car test.

However, the rear reversing LED lights (5050 SMD CANBUS H6W, cost £10) were too long so I could not put them in. Shame need as much light as possible in dark winter months.

I much happier with the LEDs, they match the Xenon headlight colour and seem to be just as bright or even better.

Is it easy to fit the sidelight led's. I've heard that you need to take the headlight unit out Shocked

Just fitted mine as they arrived today. I looked at the manual and thought sod this, no way I'm getting my hand in there without taking the unit out. So out they came. It was a 2 minute job and they look brilliant........

Well chuffed. Got the pair for £7.99......what a difference to the look of the front of the car. Just going to order a couple of LED Festoon bulbs for the rear number plate lights now.

Did the LED side lights on mine too last night.

You do need to take the head lights out, but really easy, and instructions are in the hand book. 3 screw across top of grill to remove that, then 3 nuts, (think they were 7mm from memory) around each headlight. Easypeazy.

Also did the interior lights in the upper tailgate. Has made a massive difference when hunting in the boot in the dark.

(Finally, I did the side lights on the Disco 4 - they are now brighter than the main headlights!!!)

Interesting.....what bulb type was it you used for the interior ones you changed? I've thought about buying the kit for the interior lights......

I used the same ones as for the side lights

Not sure of the quality, but I used these and they work fine (some where a tightish fit in the connector and it does matter which way around you put them in the connector).

They are supposedly the correct fitting and spec to fit in the overhead interior lights for driver and passengers, but the round head of the light is actually to big to fit through the hole in the back of the lens unit.

Would I be right in guessing that the indicator and reversing light bulbs are the same 501 LED fitment as the sidelights? Might as well do the lot at once if I'm buying sidelights... NW060

The same bulbs don't physically fit in the reversing light and no alternative LED seams to be available unless you are able to fabricate something with small LED panels - various threads on the subject else where.

Not tried the indicators though, so don't know about them.

thanks stan Thumbs Up

On the subject of bulbs, one thing that has always confused me about mine is why it has xenon dipped beams but halogen mains - seems a tad counter-intuitive and its noticeably not as bright as our bmw with xenon mains NW060
