Deployable Side Steps - Over ride ?

Hi,

Does anybody know how to manually override the Steps so that they deploy and stay deployed.

When I unlock the doors, they deploy but then withdraw after a delay of the doors being closed again.

There is a switch in the roof section but it does not appear to do anything. Should it have a light on it ?

I heard that there is a method of deploying them and holding them in the deployed position. This is not when the vehicle is being driven but for when I am at the Hand Car wash and the guys want to step on them to reach high to clean the roof.

Many thanks.

United Kingdom

found this in an old thread,

1. TO LOCK STEPS OUT

➢ Do not start engine
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (driver’s lower console) for 5 seconds
➢ Warning light in switch illuminates and stays on
➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch goes out
➢ Normal operation thereafter

2. TO LOCK STEPS IN

➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (driver’s lower console) for 5 seconds
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
➢ Do not start engine
➢ Warning light in switch flashes twice
➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch flashes three times
➢ Normal operation thereafter

Many thanks Stan, I've just tried that but it does not work.

My RR is a MY12 and has the Steps Override Button in the Roof Console and also has the Push Start Engine Button.

From your instructions, Ive added a few comments on what I observed when trying them:

    1. TO LOCK STEPS OUT

    ➢ Do not start engine
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
I presume this means - Don't press the Brake Pedal otherwise the engine would start ??

    ➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (driver’s lower console) for 5 seconds
Button is within the roof console
When depress for 5+ seconds, nothing happens

➢ Warning light in switch illuminates and stays on
The Warning Lamp does not illuminate, but given that I am doing this in the evening darkness and the main headlamps automatically come on, there is the faint illumination of the logo illuminated on the button.

    ➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch goes out
    ➢ Normal operation thereafter

Any other ideas on how to operate this or perhaps diagnose a fault ?

Many thanks

you could do a search for ''deployable steps'' and hope this has come up before or wait for somebody like craig who has expertise in these to come along... ... - .- -.

I've researching them and I found the manual

It sort of indicates a short press of the button with the engine off
or a 5Sec+ push of the button with the ignition on.
Or of course opening a front door.

Are there any owners out there with direct experience of Normal Operation or perhaps experience of failures.

Just to clarify, I have never used the Override button, so its quite possible that it has never worked.

Many thanks

Well, i still can't work the damn override button and I've tried on several... pre 09 easy Thumbs Up 09> Crying or Very sad PITA..

I now tend to leave a rear door ajar then if in a dangerous situation (jacking for instance) i would simply disconnect the plug from the front of the step Thumbs Up (easy to get to) Thumbs Up

Here's how I use mine:

Unlock car - steps pop out, get in and shut door, steps go back.

Press the unlock button on dash to make them come out. Whilst they are out press and hold the step button and start the car. They will now stay out.

Do the opposite to over ride them and make them never come out. Discovery 4 HSE
