strange non starting issue this morning

Hi chaps,
this am the FF opened and lit up as usual, (i've put a new bosch s5 on a couple of weeks ago).
key in the ignition and the steering lock can be heard disengaging. but turn the key and nothing happens, no clicks, clunks, nowt.

I've done a search and stumbled across this, which does sound similar.

I'm doubting its a battery issue, as its new and I gave the terminals a slight smear of Vaseline.
poss ignition switch,

any other thoughts chaps?
cheers

Left a light on overnight? Try charging the battery and try again? Starter motor?

many thanks for the replies guys,
just a quick update, finished work and FF opened no problem.
key in the ignition and turned to 2nd click.
Bong Trans Fail Safe
turned off, key out, locked car, unlocked and tried again.
same thing happened.
Third time no Bong,
tried to turn then engine over and nothing again. so jiggled the gear stick backwards and forwards (ignition on and foot on the brake)
After the fifth attempt there was no bong and the FF started,
drove fine on the way home (5 miles).

I'll check / clean the earth straps tomorrow and the power cables. FF has been on charge since I parked up.
cheers guys

Hi chaps, just a quick update,
I'm thinking that the inhibitor aka XYZ switch may be the culprit.
The earth strap and battery terminals were cleaned / lubed.
The battery is new and holding charge well, after a trickle charge it was 12.9v.
The issue has occurred several times since my last post, however I don't need to lock / unlock the car or turn the ignition off at all. To get the car to start I merely need to turn the key to pos 2, wiggle the gear stick Shocked and then it'll start.
So theres something being miscommunicated about the gearstick position, making the FF think it's in gear.
It may be the selector shaft needs a slight adjustment or the switch is duff.

Just wondering, having had a recon box fitted a couple of months ago, would this switch be part of that build or might this be my original switch?
Cheers

It sounds like you could be on to something with the gear lever mechanism. Suggest to get back to the outfit that installed it and let them sort out the mechanism first, make sure it is sitting properly and check the connector to the switch before replacing the switch. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
