Bargain oils

Spotted that car parts 4 less have shell helix professional af 5w30 on offer at the moment. Not sure if its the correct one as it seems to be listed as a3/b3 but I bought what I think is the same from Ecp the other day and it was a1 and ford 913b compliant.

Worth a look http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/p/acce...mp;cc5_247

Seems about 1/2 price......seems to be this one but wrongly listed

http://www.shell.co.uk/gbr/products-servic...-5w30.html

So correct for 3.6 tdv8.

Have ordered some to see. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Have ordered some too Thumbs Up

Correct grade is A1 for the 3.6, as per Shell website, though A5 is almost exactly the same oil, with a higher sheer rate 2.6mPa for A1, and 2.9mPa for A5

Quote:
A1/B1 Stable, stay-in-grade oil intended for use at extended drain intervals in gasoline engines and car & light van diesel engines specifically designed to be capable of using low friction low viscosity oils with a high temperature / high shear rate viscosity

oil turned up today Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Is as suspected 5L of Shel Helix HX7 Professional AF 5w-30. Compliant with Ford WSS-M2C-913-A/B which means it is spot on for the TDV8 and 4.2 SC (according to the handbook i have infront of me.

Glad I had ordered 50L of it now. Won't go to waste, as it is also suitable for the 2.7 TDV6 Whistle

This is a Ford spec oil, you would need a BMW spec

No idea what the actual difference is in specs mind...

Gents, reading this with some interest as the SC is due to be serviced next week.

A. Presumably you can take your own oil to a main dealer?

B. More importantly though, seems to be some confusing (to me anyway) data if anyone can please enlighten me. This Shell link shows the Helix HX7 to be 'semi synthetic'. Is it not best to use fully synthetic?

http://www.shell.co.uk/gbr/products-servic...-5w30.html

Bow down
Thumbs Up

Won't know where you are seeing semi-synth on that Ryan. Edit got it now.....
Meets the criteria for 913-b which is the one needed.

I took the oil in to the dealer, and they charged me £69 to do the swap including the filter...... Originally the quoted me £227 for an oil change, so go figure how much the charge for the oils. Our Md uses helix.

Had a look and from what I can see non of the helix ultra range of fully synth meet the right specs. Better specs yes by exact right ones for the 3.6, no. Stick the 3.6 in the shell lube search and it comes up with a choice of either hx7 or the fully synth ultra. So I presume both will do though the ultra actually has a higher ford spec on it.....?

I'm planning on running an extra change per year in any case so as long as it has the correct spec on it I'm happy. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
