Sat Nav defaults to Belgium

Hi guys,

I was wondering whether this has happened to anyone else.

Each time i start the car and use the navigation, I first need to change the default country from Belgium to the UK.

I have previously deleted all old stored destinations and way points and replaced them with my own, but still they never come back after an engine restart. It's a 57 reg Td3.6

I had it at Brookfields garage this week (mainly for something else) and they did not know how to fix this.

Any ideas from all your experienced minds? Thumbs Up

Cheers

it might be that the sat nav is loosing the signal [uk] from the gps satellites and defaulting to belgium, so it might be your antenna connections are loose or the gps antenna is faulty..... ... - .- -.

Sorry, Stan but there are no national GPS signals which is what your post seems to imply.

The signals from the satellites are standard throughout the world resulting in Lat and Long information. It's the receiving equipment that decodes them to map form. John

to clarify, chap changes default map to UK, drives about and then looses signal from gps satellites, stops and switches off engine....on start up the sat nav realises there is no gps signal so defaults to belgium.. ... - .- -.

Almost correct. Sat nav works everytime. It's just that upon each engine start up, I have to change it from Belgium to UK. Plus any stored locations I have entered have disappeared, along previously entered destinations.

weird Confused

have you entered a UK destination after the change of map to the UK so hopefully the nav remembers where you are..

you could also try ejecting the map disc while the nav is set on UK and then stick it back in, only suggesting this as it might force the memory to remember UK. ... - .- -.

yep but it still resets itself.

I've taken the cd out a few times and tried to do my own reset but funnily enough the only thing it does store is it's previous owners home address! Do you think it could be linked to which set of keys I use???

I've also tried using the diagnostic tool but that doesn't seem to be able to help.

it might be related to the key memory as i think my other key changes the radio station as well as the seat and steering wheel positions.....

try a different key or press the memory button on the seat when on the UK map [worth a try] ... - .- -.

If that doesn't work it would be worth trying a reset by disconnecting the battery. Follow the procedure in Wiki. John

THey all default to Belgium but once you select UK it should stay in the memory until you change it....

30% of the cars I buy are set to Belgium as the owners do not ever use the SAT NAV.

i tried the memory function after clearing/deleting the old data and adding new addresses but it still comes up as belgium and remembering the previous owners home and destinations upon restart.

any other ideas guys?
other than disconnecting the battery, which i will try when I get a bit of time (we just had our first child so time is precious!!)

Thanks!

Could be the permanent 12v to the GPS unit, it's doing what it usually does on a battery disconnection every time you switch off... maybe a fuse... can't help further as mines an early one.... Pete

I Haven't got a wiring diagram, but there will be a permanent 12v feed to the unit, even with the ignition 'off', to power the memory so that it remembers your settings. If yo do a battery disconnection, the sat-nav will default to belgum. I imagine that you have lost the permanent 12v feed to the unit, so that every time you turn your ignition off, it loses power and hence defaults to belgium - possibly a fuse?
