Looking at them they protect the exposed edge of the glass when the tailgate is open. To be honest I am not wholly impressed with the fitting / look of the replacements. One seems to stick out a but further at the bottom the the other. I will take pics soon I am on a busy work period at the moment. As mentioned by lolo there are slight gaps at the end but I suspect these let running water drain away as there is a v cut in them. 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts

Ok so I looked closely at the trims and...... am I being unreasonable here, please tell me if so.

The left trim sticks out further at the bottom than the right and I think looks pants. Also the corrosion from the old trim hasn't been cleaned off so it is now under the new trim.... acceptable?

Bottom trip removed!! I think mine was stuck on with some type of sealant as it would not side but I cut through then carefully pulled off and it looks much cleaner as I have no side strips either. Bad point was I found more rust and a paint line where the dealer had painted up to the old trip rather than remove it but at least I can treat the rust before it goes back to them again. Well I got my answer, fitted by National Windscreens, Inverness. The same company that caused £680 of damage just changing a front windscreen on my D3 Shocked

They failed to put new clips on the a pillar covers so one came off when driving and they never replaced the engine bay seal after replacing the scuttle panel, so my transmission ECU fried taking the solenoid with it. They paid the bill but even so, it seems they can't do anything on a Landover right, not even simple window trim.

Awaiting a call from them still Evil or Very Mad 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts

Ours a 2004 and didn't come with the side trims fitted. I don't know why Land Rover decided to fit them as the car looks fine without them.
I have just repainted the upper tailgate door due to rust issues and removed the bottom trim. This appears not to be fitted on the later models and will be left off ours. Looks much better and the rubber does not cut into the paintwork causing another problem with rust.

Don't know about the side trims. The bottom trim, I heated it up with a hot air gun and slid it out carefully.
