If you are the type of owner who cannot (or can't be bothered) to check all the fluids on a regular basis and would rather someone else worry about that then that's your call I guess.

This is a massive over simplification of the point raised here. I work in IT and you don't wait for the technology to tell you that there is a issue and you need to fix it (i.e. reactive). You proactively identify potential issues and deal with them before they occur.

Interesting reading!, new to me, my 2007 vse, full service history, and serviced only 5K miles ago! I'm a chef and my mechanical knowledge is limited but I still like to know where I am, with my car! I've booked into the garage just to have an oil and filter change!

Having said all I've said it matters not to me anyway, as I do enough miles that my car tells me it needs a service on average every 8 months. Discovery 4 HSE

I do about 6000 miles per year in mine but the service required message comes up every 12 months so its obviously programmed for time as well as milage and driving style

Had this on my 2006 S/C Geoff. The garage OBD tool wouldn't reset it and in the end that had to re-boot the car. Also a colleague of mine has an Ejoke and he had to take it back twice after the service required message popped up. In the olden days we didn't have service indicators, and TBH, we didn't need them as we all knew it was 12,000 miles per service.
