Sweden 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Alaska White

I've never driven a L322 4.4 TDV8, but having our L322 3.6 and have driven the L405 4.4 SDV8 has already made up my mind. When I see a L322, MY2011 or 2012 with the 8 speed gearbox and in Autobiography spec I will go for it. Thumbs Up

But very rare in Sweden, so it may take some years, or I may end up importing one from continental Europe Wink Supporter and maintainer of EDF - Mrs Edfors' shopping cart.

I had my L322 for 7yrs and only had 1 warranty after the initial LR one (Tesco -very cheap compared to any other and withdrawn a year later), but I can honestly say, with the exception of the gearbox failing at 90k miles (known issue) which cost me £2k to get rebuilt with LR upgraded parts , pretty well all the other running costs for parts also only related to wear and tear items, so I saved money not having the warranty. I clocked up just short of 108k miles when I sold mine. The only parts that could have been a warranty claim were the wiring loom for the injectors that failed (bad earth) and that cost £56 incl vat at the time so minor expense and a rear near side sticking calliper which may/may not have been covered (@£330 if I remember). Just my view. Steve

Well Andy a mad solution either keep or sell your current L322 and with the expected depreciation on a newer vehicle use that figure to go out and buy an older L322 as a plaything, I've just bought a peach of a FFRR, 2004 TD6 Vogue for just over £8000. It has everything my Westminster has (but just a bit older tech). As I own this one I can play in the mud if I want, look at all the aftermarket parts to improve on the early design issues and get rid of the things that restricted the excellent BMW straight six diesel making it fly and touch 30mpg average every day. Journey started in a LR2B at 16 and has incl. just about every Land Rover, Disco, RRS and Range Rover Vehicle owned or driven, I even worked for the company when it was owned by BAe - It must be a madness!!! because to add to my 4.4 TDV8 Westminister In Baltic Blue I bought a second L322 as a commuter bus, TD6 2004 Vogue in Oslo Blue with cream leather now both gone replaced with what could turn out to be my biggest mistake. Well here's the thing Monty, depreciation is not something I worry about. I get paid a monthly car allowance so in my man maths that's covering the depreciation. Finance costs come from salary, leaving my capital invested and earning interest, not blown on a wasting asset. My thoughts were how much would I need on top of the lump I'm paying out to move up to a newer AB 4.4 for similar monthly payment. If the cost to change makes sense, then I do it, if not I keep what I've got.

Have you had much trouble off your current car?

If not, put the £1600 for the warranty away and take the risk. We never bothered to extend the LR warranty on our old TDV8 (sold it at 5 years old, 2 years after the warranty ran out) and we've not extended it on the 2012 AB now which has just run out either. Unless we start getting problems from the Freelander it won't be extended.

£1600 would pay for quite a lot of repairs really. Brings your outlay down significantly if you look at it that way!

I use a main dealer, but they're local to me, I've used them for years and I trust them. I don't know any LR indies close to me so I stick with who I know. No doubt if I lived in in the Cotswolds I'd be a customer of Craig's!

Anyway, back to the conundrum. Went to look at a 2011 AB this morning. Ticked all the boxes except it had duo tone seats, which I don't like. Spoke numbers with the salesman, the outcome of which is the cost to change is just a tad too much, so I'm sticking. Still, if that AB had ticked all the boxes, then I might have been tempted more.

Errrr........ Well, um, err.... The swap would have been an extra £200 per month. Now I could just about afford that, but my cars stand idle most of the time, so sensible head says don't do it. If the right one comes along, I'll go for it. Salesman told me that climate seats and rear recliners, which I have in the current car, are quite rare even on ABs, so I may be looking for some time!
