Transfer failsafe program

My vogue has this trans failsafe programme up on dash and it's seems to be locked into 4th gear....it resets once you turn ignition off but does it again once you drive off....has anyone had this.it had a new gearbox before I had it but don't know when...I have replaced the battery as I was told it could be that....I have also removed the transfer shifter and bench tested it and that's all working as should.....thanks in advance for any advice

Loads of posts on the subject

Hi I think just about every owner of a pre 2005 auto has seen this come up!
It can end up driving you to distraction and great expense if you don't try and record exactly what happens when this happens, this will save you time and money.
A great chap to talk to would be Pete Hancock AKA Haylands. Look for his posts.
Mine turned out to be the transmission isolator switch. But there are a multitude of reasons for this fault. Some show differing characteristics & symptoms pre event and post event.
It can get very complicated if you read all the posts so don't do that untill you have tied the symptoms and lead up to the event.
Then talk to Pete "Haylands" Eddie the eagle watch out 👀

Well thanks for the vote of confidence but it's RRPhil who is the resident gearbox expert, my meager knowledge is just from reading this and other forums... Phil does the hands on stuff....

Transmission Failsafe Mode comes in to protect the gearbox when the ECU "thinks" there is a difference in speed across the box, i.e, the box is slipping... this can be caused by lots of things, mechanical, electrical, heat, oil....

You need to get it diagnosed by someone who knows the problems with the GM5 unit in yours, I would phone around and see if you have anywhere local. Pete

36hours or 36 mins.... won't make any difference, you can't turn something more than off...

From you other post I would guess yours was a parasitic drain that you removed during the 36hour unplug...

Unfortunately there are many reasons for the fault and I think yours is different from the OP Pete

Fair point well made

As you say, i removed amp, radio, nav, head unit and tv units- poss one of those had a drain of some sort
