TDV8 engine won't stop!

Evening all.

The car is sat outside with the engine running. Started it up to move it out the way for a delivery and the 'restricted performance' message appeared. Not a big surprise, as those who know and love a JLR product are used to it but the first time on this car. Usually a 'reboot' sorts it but when I pushed the start/stop button, dashboard blacked out but engine stayed on! Tried to turn it on again and the starter motor tried to engage and the electronics all fired up. Tried to stop it again and the same thing happened - hence it's still running with all the doors locked!

LR technician is on his way with his laptop and I'm sure will tell me what error code he's getting. I wonder whether it's something wrong with the parked heating/cooling system as that obviously allows the engine to run without the car being 'on' if you know what I mean.

Anyway, will post when we know the outcome - it might run out of diesel first!

Cheers,

H

I had exactly this. Keep pressing the start stop button. It stops eventually. It maybe will reset.

It was an exhaust temperature sensor.

That is really good news, mine will be 4 years old next week and I am getting tempting feelings for a new one, the more bad news I hear the better for my wallet. letters not necessarily in the right order

Thanks for that Emperor - held down the start/stop button and indeed it did stop. LR have said only the AA can get to me tonight so I'll wait for the LR guy in the morning. I'll be using the trusty Defender 300tdi tomorrow then - funny, that never seems to break down.

It's time it went and had a bit of dealer love anyway - it is 6 months old now. At least they can fix the TPMS error, faulty side steps, tailgate trim and broken tow bar cover whilst it's there. <sigh>
