EGR cleaner

I picked up a can of this from halfaurds the other day for £10, I gave it a go following the instructions on the tin and the car is a lot more responsive now just wondered if anyone else has tried this

yes i gave it about 4 sprays you hear the engine note change as it says and the revs pick up I must admit i was sceptical about it but appears to of done the trick

I, as many driving the TD6 have bought an EGR Blanking Kit (tube) my came from a BMW kit supplier for £24 and was aircraft grade quality materials and finish, I fitted it with a new Green cotton air filter and changed the crankcase breather filter also, the jobs took about 2 hours but I had encroached into darkness so holding torch added time.
My old EGR valve had been on the Range Rover for 103,000 miles and the airway was a third blocked with semi hard coke this extended into the inlet chamber attached to the injectors (cleaning this part without sending hard coke into the inlet manifold was the trickiest job.
Before the 3 things were completed I was getting 27mpg on my commute and there was always a slight smell of old oil around the engine bay, after the parts were swapped I then had 31mpg on exactly the same commute although 5,000 miles on it has dropped to 30mpg tyhe oily smell disappeared (crankcase breather was really old and had not been done on services for many years).
If using a chemical to break down the carbon/coke it will either deposit itself further into the inlet manifold or flow through the inlet valves. If the chemicals work really well thats an awful lot of debris its shifting if the mileage your engine has completed is high.
Oh! and its quicker, but that may be due to the combination of a good air filter and a less tortuous passage for the air passing though the new pipe replacing the EGR.
I'm not saying this way forward is for everyone but just my experience.
Now my TDV8 I won't be touching until the Warranty runs out next year.

I replaced mine because it was well documented that the EGR is not required, and will over time block up and reduce engine performance and economy. Having removed it from an engine that had done 105K mine too was about a third blocked. Having done away with all the restrictions that the valve introduces, it can only help with combustion Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Blanking off the EGR is good, but it's worth putting a dose of EGR cleaner trough it afterwards as the inlet tract will still be bunged up with historic gunk. It's effectively intake cleaner.

I did it on my Jaguar X-Type and that mad a massive difference to it after cleaning, more responsive, idled better even changed gear better.

It's worth noting though, the EGR cleaner is much cheaper from Euro car parts, about half the price of Halfords.

Mines a 70000 mile v8 so hopefully it wasn't too bad it certainly made a difference ,as for stripping it down to clean out the inlets that will be a long process and only happen if performance really drops off ,looking at the wiki for replacing the egr it's not a ten minute job

For the TD6 it's about a 30 - 40 minute job, for the TDV8 I have no idea Sad But I'm sure that if you do some searching on here someone will have posted a how to Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
