Brake line corrosion

Opions on this please....

Should your front to back brake lines corrode and disintegrate causing brake fluid to pour out and spray all over the underneath of your car after 4 1/2 years??

Not unless you drive through salt water regularly.

My last MOT (June 15) picked up some corrosion on my rear brake lines. At 4.5yrs old and only 35k road miles I was not impressed. Landrover were not really interested especially as I had not purchased it from a main agent despite it having full main dealer service history. I eventually managed to get a 25% contribution and a reduced labour rate. I think doing both sides takes around 6/8 hrs, the dealership had mine for 3 days to do that and the front brake hose recall.

Thanks chaps.

Jack, sounds like your experience is the same as mine.

LR said although it has main dealer history they didn't know how the car was stored!!!

Even if it was stored on the side of a mountain surely they shouldn't disintegrate!!

All i got was a reduced labour rate, no contribution.

They said the same to me. I think the turning point in my case was when I drew a conclusion from that statement that all Landrover demonstrator vehicles could well have been used off road and so using their argument would be far more likely to corrode than non Landrover owned vehicles. Landrover do not mention this as the point of sale. On a car that was 89k, you don't expect to have to replace the brake lines before the disks/pads!!

I think there may have been a problem with the MY2010.5 cars. Mine has never been used off road or been kept near the sea yet has corroded, searching of the net shows I'm not alone.

They accepted my claim for a new tailgate, that was replaced a few weeks ago.

I have seen so many 2010 and 11 tailgates full of corrosion.

I'll have to check mine, whereabouts did your tailgate go? I replaced the tailgate straps which were looking non to clever but didn't notice anything else, but will need to have a better look.

At least by you getting them all done together, fingers crossed that should be it for a good few years.

I had the rear brake pipes replaced on a 2010 FF when it was 2 1/2 yr old and my 3 1/2 yr old FF has the same thing needing doing and also i have a corrosion blister on the wheel arch and the rear window side trim has fallen off AND the door mirror has a hair line crack in it, happened all by its self. And a bloomin great stone chip in the windscreen again.
This is my 5th RR and my last, Apart from the power I really do think the L322 things are crap.
As soon as i've paid the thing off its going.
For all thats holy why would anyone buy one. When there good there amazing but ..... Enough said.

AND its already had new rear tailgate struts and 3 door top frames, Turbo issues.
AND, AND one more thing when i floor it clouds of blue smoke behind me, Yes I know why that is and no prob but stone the crows my transit van never does that.
Do you know what, in May I bought a 2006 Volvo c70 convertable thing, I Love it cost 4.5k runs on petrol not the dirty stuff.

Must go and take the daily calming medication now.
Bye.
