td6 wont start

Went to start car yesterday,nothing...
Charged battery o/night

All lights came on + hdc, trans failsafe prog & air-susp inactive.
Did have "sport-mode" before, but that has been replaced with hdc, etc.
Called nrma out to give me a boost to get it started, still nothing.
Got the mechanic out.
Battery had enough volts to get it going, he put a screwdriver between main wire from battery and the small black wire on starter and it fired up. Smile
Still had warning lights on dash + battery light.
Went for a drive, bit sluggish to get going and wouldn't go into overdive 5th.
Warning lights still on.
Got home locked it,went out 1/2 hr later, unlocked car, still wont start. Crying or Very sad
Can anybody give me a clue as to what is wrong with it.

Ps. Put my iid tool onto it earlier and it came up with heap of canbus errors-transmission,engine,body,instruments.interior,etc

Thanks

If you look at the connections on the starter motor there will be a thick wire (battery feed) and a thin wire (ignition feed) going to the starter motor, you will need to put a test probe on to the thin wire to see if there is power when the key is turned, which I would be surprised if there was in your case!

The next thing to find is the starter relay or Ignition interlock relay, when the key is turned this should energize (click), If it does then that is most likely the thing at fault. While it should click when the key is turned, it should also send +12 v to the starter motor.

If it doesn't click, first try putting the car into N (neutral) and see if the starter relay clicks, in fact I would try that first before looking at anything else, it could be a dodgy inhibitor switch on the gearbox.

If you've tried all that, and the relay still isn't clicking, the most likely cause will be the immobiliser, at that point I would hand it over to a professional. The only thing that I can't tell you is where the Ignition interlock relay is Embarassed I can't find it on those new fangled wiring diagrams, wot was wrong with the old underground maps, they were sooo much easier to read. Anyway I am lead to believe that it is behind the battery, but I would wait for some to spill the beans, as I would have thought that the ECU box would be a more logical place to hide it, good luck bud Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... No, helpfully it's behind the battery which you have to remove to get to it so when you have got to it you can't check it in situ... you will have to take it out and check it or just replace it...

Does the steering column click when you put the key in, i.e. is the steering lock, unlocking....?? Pete
