Labour Saving Devices

After many years of telling SWMBO that the potions and gadgets she buys that are supposed to help with domestic cleaning tasks are a waste of money today I discovered the Clay Mitt. It didn't get everything off first pass but the noise showed where the big tar spots were so I could remove them with a clay bar. I didn't use any special sprays or potions just the Auto Glym shampoo to keep everything moist during washing and claying operations and then rinsed of with hosepipe. I still need to do the lowest panels because I ran out of time but the mitt clearly showed they need a bit more work. Why I have I not found this labour saving device sooner , will I have to confess to SWMBO that I might have been wrong? Rolling with laughter Geoff

That is exactly what I bought - 3 for 2 at Halfords although I only bought 1 mitt, a bottle of AutoGlym shampoo and some interior dashboard cleaner.
Paid for the two most expensive items as you can mix and match. Geoff

Is it worth the effort getting detailing spray or would normal shampoo/water be enough to lube the paintwork? Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
Galaxy 2001-2007
Mondeo Estate 1997-2001
Sierra Estate 1993-1997
Uno Turbo 1987 -1993
Fiesta 1984 - 1987
Fiat 127 1982 - 1984

Read earlier somewhere on here that the Mitt is fine with car shampoo. With the Clay Bar you need the 'lube' Thumbs Up SDV8 AB MY 2019

I just used the Shampoo as a lubricant, even for the clay it seemed to work. Just made sure there was plenty on, I do have the detailing mist (it came with the clay bar) but found I didn't need it. Geoff

Excellent things clay wash mitts particularly if you don't have the time or inclination to use clay bars. You can buy the special expensive lubricants but copious use of a good car body shampoo is just as good.

The detailing spray you can use with it is just shampoo with a bit of wax in it.

Just ensure you wash and rinse the car first and then clay with either the mitt or the bar. Do NOT use the clay mitt to wash and clay at the same time as you'll grind any dirt into the paint.

The mitt can save time but I found the clay to give far better results for the additional extra effort. Plus, with the clay bar, you can re-mould the bar once it gets dirty. You cannot do this with the mitt, but you can at least rinse it. Si. <This is my name.
