I've noticed that my cons1 and cons2 don't update until I select 'recalculate'. Then they seem to be constantly changing until a point where it slows down and then will stay at the same reading for days.
My golf has a similar consumption readout but that is noticeably different in that it's always adjusting and re-adjusting itself on the move 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Both con1 & con2 are averages sir... So, will get to an average and eventually stay still... The idea of having a&b is you can reset one with fuel stops & the other as a long term average between engine services say?

hmm I have an average mpg (A & B) and also a instant mpg.

might you be referring to the instant one - that always moves

the average one skips around a lot when first reset but then, because it's an average, slows it state of change over time...

[edit] - I re read your post - sorry - does you golf have a "per trip" average rather than a "since reset" average. My mercy has this and I agree with your comments in that sense...? Ash

I agree with Craig. It is all based on average figures, the longer you drive without resetting, the more stable the reading is.

I very rarely reset my cons2 and that shows about 26mpg over a couple of '000 miles. I sometimes reset cons1 if I am going on a long trip to check consumption. That will change quite a bit until it settles on a figure after a dozen or so miles.

e.g. reset cons1 before the journey. As I am driving through town traffic it may show something like 12-14 mpg, this will increase to 26-28 mpg when I hit the motorways. At the end of the journey (including slow and fast moving traffic) it will probably have stabilised at about 27 mpg.

Here is something to try. When you are cruising on a motorway at a steady speed, reset cons1, after a mile or 2 it may show 30+mpg.

These figures are obtained with my TD6

Interesting note: when I bought the car both readings were about 23mpg. So I assume the previous owner did a lot more town driving or towing than me. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE
