Tow Electrics 3 red LEDs on in rear light cluster L322

Hi All

At the weekend I fitted a Witter tow bar (R32B) together with the Westfalia 13 pin electrics with the ECU & relays (Part number 323064 300113 plug & play) to a L322 2002 4.4 v8 vogue which has original range rover supercharged rear lights on it.

Nice simple install, took less then 3 hours from start to finish, electrics came with ECU and relay and were just plug and play.

It had no errors showing on the dash or on scanner before the work was carried out.

However I'm now getting 3 red LEDs in the rear part of the brake light cluster on each side?????

Before anyone says they dont have LEDs they are defiantly LEDs even though the rear clusters use normal bulbs in the rear.

Start the car and the LED's come on turn the car off and they go off.

Waiting on a email from Westfalia regarding the 3 red LEDs

Any help would be much appreciated

The brake lights on all 322’s are LED’s sir... But to clarify? Are the three LED’s that are staying on, on the car or trailer? If the car? Are they doing it always or only with a trailer connected to the electrics?

Are the electrics a genuine JLR kit? Or aftermarket?

Have you tried unplugging the electrics from the white plug? Does that put things back to normal?

Have you told the car via diagnostics it now has a tow bar?

The 3 red LED's that are staying on are at the top on each side of the brake lights in the light cluster.

They come on when ignition is turned on. When its turned off they go off.

Haven't tried it with light board yet.

I was told by Range Rover dealers you cant get the original factory tow electrics, so the dealers now offer the Westfalia plug and play kit with the white Siemens control module (ECU).

The electrics come complete with 3 connectors on the end one plugs into the Siemens control module, one plugs into the factory wiring and the other has a block on the end that the supplied relay plugs into.

I've also checked the earths on the new wiring.

I will unplug the tow wiring from the factory wiring (White block) when I get home later today to see if the LED's go out.

Will also check the tow electrics fuses in the drivers side rear later also

No haven't changed settings via scanner as Westfalia said its plug and play and no coding is required

I've checked the earth, unplugged everything plugged it all back in, taken the black replay out and put it all back together.

The only thing I haven't done yet is change fuse no1 to a 30A.

I've also noticed that the relay, top left is yellow and the other ones are a light green so will take that out next and check it.

I think you will find the yellow relay isn't in fact a relay but is a bridging link to make some of your auxiliary sockets permanently live.
Looks like a relay though. Thumbs Up

Put a new relay in still have LED's on, changed the fuse to 30AMP still on, so had the back lights out both sides to check connections no luck LED's still on.

Checked the new loom to see if it got pinched anywhere and as I was pulling it around the LED's went off then came back on again.

Checked the loom and no pinch marks or exposed wire, checked the earth point inside the boot nice and tight but as I was doing this the LED's went out. If I pushed the earth lead one way the LED's went out pulled it another way and they came back on.

It looks like I got a Friday afternoon production loom......

The problem was the earth crimp, pulled it off put a new one on and bingo the 3 red LED's both sides went out and stayed out.

FIXED......
