Td6 front brake pads

Good morning I need to change my front pads and was going to ask what experience every body has I was thinking of putting ebc yellow stuff on has any body used these or are they just a waste and fit genuine Land Rover ones ect and do the calliper Pistons just press in or do I need to use a re wind tool cheers

IIRC: Both calipers just push back. Fronts are definitely push back. Wind back pistons are generally for handbrake activated movement, but cause the handbrake is on a separate drum, then the pads are just push back. Worth giving everything a wee clean, especially the calliper sliding pins if the pads didn't come with any new ones.

I had a 2002 4.4 V8 previously and used EBC pads. I had the greens in, and later on the yellows. Both were fine. Preferred the yellows. (I'm just about to fit reds to a 7 series BMW, be interesting to see how they go)

I did notice that the yellows had a little bit of warm up time. On a cold morning, the first main stop using the brakes would have that couple seconds where you think "hmmm, not braking as it should here", but then it would kick in as normal as heat generated. After that, they would be fine. Once you know this, you generally factor that in.

Once on the go, I found the yellows to be very good. Able to brake deeply into the pedal travel without feeling that you were running up the limit of the pads. For example, dual carriageway full speed, moderately hard braking to come up to a roundabout then suddenly having to ram the anchors for something ... the brakes felt like they could easily cope with that additional hard effort. On that same line, once they had been used fiercely, the initial bite of the yellows seemed better as well.

I fitted the yellows for towing the horse box and that extra stopping power. Would do it again if in the same position. V8 or else ...

Recently did my disco which has a similar set up with a 2 pot trw caliper.

I used 2 g clamps to push the Pistons back, you need to push one with a clamp and hold the other with the other clap to stop it popping out winding them both back until flush.

Also pay attention to the calliper carriers, as these can corrode and make the pads a tight fit. Of the don't pop in easily then You will need to clean out where the pads sit with a file until they push in easily with little resistance. A little lube on the backs and ears and you should be fine. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Done my discs and pads all round, but only single piston calipers on front and rear.
only used the usual makes mintex etc and no probs at all. Worth just easing the caliper piston seal back to see if you have any corrosion on them, then you will know if they need refurbishing or replacing.

I fitted EBC and they squeak like Censored when gentle braking, I think they are too hard, trying to wear them out so I can fit some genuine ones.... Thumbs Up Pete

Fitted Mintex and mine sounded like a London bus stopping every time I pressed the brake. After 2 weeks of hell they were swapped for genuine LR pads and the squealing stopped

I have just been looking at Euro car parts and they are listing brembo pads for my car will any of the pads make a difference over genuine Land Rover ones or should I just fit genuine
