Front right thorax airbag

Got the airbag light on and MoT is due in the next few weeks.
Had it fault read and came back as the "front right thorax airbag"

Asked on pistonheads about it and they suggested the drivers seat airbag.

Does anyone know more about this?

I think there is one in the driver's door? That would be to protect the thorax I would think.

You don't have one in the seat, the thorax airbag is in the door Pete

Ah right, that explains my lack of seeing one in the seat area.

The little airbag toggle thing in the door is detached and sitting in the door-card.
The previous owner was a bit cheap... well very but so was the car. The main window switch doesnt work for the drivers window only. So instead of fixing/replacing it he wired in 2 cables with connecters on the end. Plug them together one way for window down, other way for window up. Not a big deal as im coming from a windy window car.

But this now makes me question that he might have just loosened something by mistake while having the door card off to do this. Is it easy enough to get the door card off to have a look inside to try sort this myself?

I think I'd definitely be taking the door card off to see what's going on behind there. Who knows what else has been bodged up behind there.

The door card is easy to take off:

The airbag is at the top of the door, pretty hard not to miss! The wiring for it though should not have been disturbed unless someone needed to get into the door itself to change the lock or window mechanisms, I know I removed mine to change the door lock (failed motor).

Make sure you follow SRS system precautions when dealing with the airbags, i.e. disconnect the battery negative and leave for 2 minutes to drain the back up battery before messing with any wiring. Not only for safety but it'll prevent any more codes popping into the system. Bare in mind that SRS fault codes tend to be hard codes that need resetting by a diagnostic tool, simply fixing any fault may not mean the fault light will go out.

Before you start it's worth checking that your driver door unlocks manually with the key as often the rod can pop out. Another job you can easily fix with the door card off and will be grateful for when your remote battery dies in the middle of no where!

It has a bodge done for the window switch so someone has for sure been in the door.

Has 2 plugs coming out the door card into the pocket area which I put together one way for up, the other way for down. Needs a new window switch but ive never got round to buying one due to it not bothering me. Bought the car for towing not opening windows haha

Ended up uh, randomly going off for the MoT then appearing after.

Strange huh

Updated it as I don't frequent this forum often and was asking elsewhere about retro fitting newer seats.
