How often does your compressors work?

My 2003 4.4 v8 got 70k miles on it and i fitted the compressor repair-kit as a preventive maintenance about a year ago.

I was wondering how often your compressors work? It feels like i can hear mine pretty often. I dont think i got any airbag leaks the bags are in good condition and it doesent lower it self over night or anything. Maybe its normal behavior?

Cheers! L322 Vogue 2003

Mine will run any time I add weight or remove it from the car (passengers or cargo in or out) but not all the time - sometimes it runs by itself for no reason that I can think of apart from maybe topping up? It does not run all the time though just now and again

It seems to depend on all sorts of things... like Brian says it comes on when you change load, it also does it more when on bad or uneven roads and also whenever it drops out of motorway mode...

As long as it's not on constantly you should be OK, it has a thermal cut out that prevents it working unless it really needs to, it will also not run for longer than 3 minutes at a time, again unless it really needs to to get the FF to height...

Next time you park it for the day, put it into off road mode, wait until the pump stops and it has refilled the tank, then leave it overnight, if it's still up in the morning then it's unlikely you have a leak in most of the system, you might still have one between the pump and the tank but that usually throws a fault code and locks the suspension out....

Thumbs Up Pete

I have anger issues with my pump. It's new, and everything works ok. However, if I leave the car in say off-road mode, I can guarantee it will mess about trying to stay high, and it will definitely kill the battery, so it's dead the next time I go to drive it.
If it was just sitting on its belly, flat down, and the battery was full (charged) this would not bother me. The fact that the car fusses about when locked etc, annoys me. Evil or Very Mad
If I was super-technically minded, I would find a wire to put a switch into, to disable this 'sleep/wake and pump/sleep' battery killer.
There must be hundreds of our cars, with a tiny leak, that end up with new batteries, only for the problem to repeat etc.

Very easy to wire in the pump to only work with ignition on, it may still mess about and end up on the floor though...

Have you tried hitting the hold button before switch off, I wonder if that would make it stop...

The other thing is, have you got the suspension set to tight tolerance, which means it will react to small differences as mine doesn't do what yours is doing.... Pete
