On the subject of weird noises....

In my MY2016 TDV6 I can hear a really irritating whining noise coming from the near side of the engine compartment. It does it from cold and in the short 6 miles to work it doesn't go away - well it fades to almost no noise when I'm moving but as soon as I stop in traffic or am crawling along, back it comes.
My old L322 TDV8 did something slightly similar and someone told me it was maybe the heating unit but in that car it used to stop making a noise pretty quickly whereas in the L405 it doesn't go away. This is supposed to be a refined, quiet car but it sounds cheap and unrefined, at least on the short daily commute.

Any ideas anyone?

Geiger Counter noise

...well, mine is three weeks old (ATB TDV6) and, since the beginning, I've noted this Geiger Counter type noise that I've started investigating by changing various "configurations" in order to find out its origin and, for now, i think I may have found the culprit:

- Outside Temperature below 18°C. ☆☆☆☆
- Sunny / raining whether ☆
- Bad road / normal paved road ☆☆
- Pano Roof shade extended / not extended ☆
- Widows open / closed ☆
- Speed above 70 km/h ☆☆
- Only driver vs. four occupants ☆
- Air recycling on ☆☆☆☆☆

therefore I suspect that my Geiger Counter noise "could" be connected with a climate vane movement or bad positioning. I'll have the dealer check it @ my next visit planned by next week or so where he have also to:
- change right front door inside panel slightly damaged before delivery
- activate automatic lights
- make rear lights off with daylights
- make front parking aid auto-activate as per menu and owners manual
- make the HUD plastic properly match the dash shape

...but I love my FFRR anyway, fantastic.

@ modbarra: that's good news, thank you.

@ d3rm0: it doesn't work on mine, nor works the option in the centre screen: each time I turn it on it becomes off at every new start. It looks like a software bug on cars without the auto parking feature, I think they forgot to paste few lines of code in cars with parking aid only feature, but this is only my supposition.

I have full parking aid on my L494 and have the issue with the front sensors. LR know it's a software bug but they 'all do it' - yes they all do it wrong contrary to the manual!

Please kick up a fuss or we don't have a chance of getting it changed. There is no point having this feature that resets on ignition cycle.

It means you've fully disabled PDC and AFAIK the dealer needs to re-enable it. 15MY introduced the new feature. 16MY changed how you enable the feature but 15MY doesn't forget your choice at ignition reset!

dfulgo, does your ATB have the premium sound system with Conversation Assist (CA)? You might want to test that it isn't your CA that is picking up a rattle and broadcasting it over the speakers. You can turn CA off in the menu to test it out. 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

Thank you Ms. Mdx, but, I think no. I've checked it as soon as I read your precious previous posts on the matter and I found out that:
- my system is the 825 so I'm not sure the CA is even available on it
- no CA options in both Centre Screen & Dash
- no CA mention on my Topix Build Sheet

BUT Shocked

...yesterday evening I really found the culprit! Now I can replicate it: it is my beloved leather lined frame of the sunroof, if I depress the edge which is right above the driver's head, like trying to push it against the glass-roof, then the Geiger Counter noise can clearly be heard. It is more evident with the blind extended AND the same phenomenon is also present on the back.
Next monday the appointment with the dealer, I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again.
Thumbs Up

Full Fat Flatulence

Mine has started making what can only be described as a farting sound, when you turn it off. Yesterday and today, about a minute after turning off the ignition, from the drivers side rear .. No change in ride height when it's sat there or anything like that, but just seeking opinions (and assurance!) thanks!

Chargers - it's probably to do with fuel tank, is it quite low on fuel?

Hi Nick, thanks for the reply. I've actually just filled it up what with Morrisons doing 102.9p, but I'd not even thought about the fuel tank.

Bizarrely now I've un-tightened the fuel cap, which resulted in a vacuum type sound, it's stopped doing it, so I guess Nick you were on the money - thank you!
