Nice start to New Year, L322 TDV8 Turbo Failure

As above, done literally less than 800yds from front door, booted it a bit to catch lights, whoosh no power, Censored thought I, turbo hose gone, limped home at tickover, just turned into my close, bong, oil level warning, oops i thought, not looking good, big pool of oil under car, Blue Flag recovery to pals workshop, turns out turbo gone, sucked all oil into airbox (and intercooler), dropped all oil from intercooler and airbox, looking at a minimum of 2 X turbos, 2 X EGR valves, poss intercooler and a bucket of labour happy days Big Cry
Had car approx 12 month, 107k, FSH, just had service & gearbox flush, prior to it letting go no whistling or weird noises, not a happy bunny, keeping car so seems common sense to replace both turbos and EGR valves just to be on safe side, hoping no engine damage Sad joys of R/Rover ownership, just fitted FFRR sticker so wondering if this was cause of problem Whistle Whistle Whistle

Guesstimate about 3k to 4K, :blub:however could be worse if turbo had hydro locked engine or simply disintegrated would be really bad, only one complete s/h engine on bay of e at £4550 and 71k miles Shocked God only knows how much a recon would be with turbos EGRs etc on top, kak happens just got to bite the bullet an move on Wink

what a PITA, hope the garage can sort it easily enough. It may sound an expensive bag of parts, but once it is done its one less thing to worry/think about! Thumbs Up

Heres hoping that the engine has suffered no internal damage, if they are having the turbos off get them to check the oil feed pipes from the sump to the turbos, these can block and cause oil starvation in the turbo units themselves. and as its probably got no oil in it it may be worth having the sump off as well. There are 2 drain plugs for the oil, if the car hasn't been serviced properly and the tec was lazy they may have only drained one part of the sump, the one which gets left is the one where the oil feeds to the turbo pick up and if it hasn't been drained there maybe a bit of crud in this section..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

They have had engine running so luckily no damage, at least when it's all done should be good for 100k trouble free (maybe) I blame that sodding FFRR sticker I put on Whistle
