Caliper painting

Afternoon all, a bit of advice please. I have an Overfinch TDV8 which has red calipers. One has just been replaced by the dealer I bought it from under warranty, however they have used a standard steel caliper so I need to paint it. Has anyone used brakecaliperspecialists.uk? They sell a complete kit to do 4 calipers for 30 (might as well do the others as well). Will I need to remove any of the brake components in order to paint the calipers in situ? Thanks.

Thanks Alistair, yes I've had a look at some of the other posts. I couldn't see any references to this supplier, and it wasn't clear for someone with limited mechanical ability (me!) whether removal of any parts is necessary before painting. 1982 SIII 88” diesel

I did this just got the cheapest calliper paints, brake dust remover and stickers of eBay. Took the wheel off and brush painted in situ, obviously not red as that is for folk younger than me.

Result below and my dog has more mechanical ability than me Rolling with laughter

Another good effort! Presumably Hammerite lasts a while too? What sort of brake cleaner did you use, and what type of brush? If I'm going to do this I don't want to Censored it up! 1982 SIII 88” diesel

this is one of the easiest jobs you can do....clean with a damp cloth, let dry and then paint with any metal/barbecue type paint and use any paintbrush...
dont get conned into buying special heat resistant caliper paint, you dont need that... ... - .- -.

For painting rough cast calipers I'd be inclined to use brush on Hammerite smooth but if you're running Brembo's then spray will give a much better finish. I've never really liked Hammerite spray and for calipers have always liked VHT Enamel. It's tough and long lasting if you leave it to dry for 24hrs before using the car. I've used it on quite a few cars that have seen the discs going purple with heat and the paint stands up remarkably well. Standard spray from Halfords is actually not a bad choice if you fancy an odd colour and it's just on something normal like the Range Rover which is highly unlikely to ever see the sort of temperatures required to blister the paint; even when hot the outside of the brake caliper stays pretty cool in the grand scheme of things.
