Well I just noticed that my offside one is sticking, had the same problem on the last car and it seems a common enough problem. My default position is to get my local indy to replace both rear calipers with new ones, then its definitely fixed and the problem goes away permanently, well for a good few years at any rate.

I was just thinking are there alternatives to doing this, I see lots of refurb kits available - has anyone had experience and if so are the kits effective and achieve a long lasting result? Geoff

I got mine from Dan - fairly sure they were refurb units & had to send mine to him in exchange afterwards.

Unusual Geoff on the later cars as the callipers are different on the 4.4 & 5.0...

You may find this useful - all my cars I take off the calipers every 6 months or so and take apart and clean all the brake dust - that gets caked in hard and winter grime.

I have found that since I used silicone spray on the piston boot rubbers and inside the caliper edges they are still looking like new.

I would suggest you have a go at this when you get new calipers - as a lot of folk forget about the brakes and all the hard work they have to do.

Its like when you go and see a second hand car - look at the brakes - it can tell you a lot about how shes been looked after.

My advice is buy OE LR kit and you will not look back

But it has just clocked over 100,000 miles so I expect bills! Geoff

One of mine was sticking last week, the wheel was getting VERY hot. Took it off and it was VERY reluctant to move back in. Gave it some white grease spray under the rubber seal and after a few minutes it was as free as it should be.

Definitely worth a try before splashing out on a replacement (from ECP in the case of my last one)  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

Check its not it the pads seized in the caliper carrier also.

It's Worth stripping it down first cleaning and filing way any rust from where the pads sit. If they are stiff to get out then it may be part of the problem. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Rear calipers !

Jan 2014 RH replaced - LH stripped, cleaned rebuilt [by trusted UK Mech]
Dec 2014 LH failed - asked to have replaced but dealer in Belgium insisted on refurbishing.
Dec 2015 LH failed - replaced along with extra cost of discs pads etc etc

I am sure if the LH was replaced in Dec 2014 i would not have had the 2015 problem.

having said that when you think of all the Road Salt, Road Grime and Brake dust - it ends up in Black Grey hardened like tooth paste - just look at the rear shims when you take apart to clean. This is why many shoes stick theirs no free movement


I always take apart and clean everything and ALWAYS put new brake shims every 6 months - there's no point in trying to clean the copper shims that are usually pitted !
Start with new stuff !

Brakes are the one component that all folk overlook - they clean the body work but forget about the heavy usage stuff.

I stripped and replaced the seals on my offside rear too. It lasted a year, but I ended up replacing both calipers last weekend.

Turns out my o/s disc is now warped, so picked up a new pair of discs from ECP today......no prizes for guessing what next weekends job is

Gents, your all talking about changing 06-09my rear callipers and yes they are a well known issue but Geoff has a 5.0 so has the later Brembo setup & different rear callipers to your cars!

Im not being pedantic... But there will be others reading this thread (now or in the future) getting confused about MY’s and known issues etc etc etc

I have to laugh at all those who go and splash out on new calipers because they are sticking,you must have money to burn.Maybe there is an issue with the calipers but most of the time it is just sticking pads caused by roaddust and brake debris or a little spray behind the piston rubber.My friends '09' plate had the same,just a good clean out and maintenance,been fine since .If you ever pun new pads in just make sure they are not tight,i have put a good file or grinder on lots that are too tight,you will only get sticking brakes if you force them in !

Ive been busy this afternoon, fitted the spare wheel lifting straps (excellent) and had a quick play with the sticking caliper but I didn't do much really as it started to rain, I have not yet given up hope and Craig I am grateful that you pointed out that I may have been jumping to the wrong conclusion. Geoff

Urg rear calipers, same as d3 what a nightmare they are.

Just had rear nearside replaced and fair enough on this occasion ripped rubber boot. Three days later.... boiling hot wheel, no time to get it to garage due to work. Stripped it all down overnight, pushed piston back in and cleaned pad tabs and sliders and hey presto... fine again... until nex time.

I don't drive mine every day which makes it infinitely worse, every time I drive it I check the mpg on first drive to be sure it hasn't suddenly dropped which it obviously does as the brake binds.

I wish there was an easy permanent solution . 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts
