I've been running slotted / drilled discs for 25K, and have found them to be fantastic at stopping the lump Thumbs Up
Slotted / drilled discs are designed to clear away the dead / burnt material from the pads, so you have new friction material every time you brake. So to put it in a nut shell they are self cleaning brakes, and I can't see them not being better off road Thumbs Up

I fitted mine as a precaution, due to the heavy trailers that I pull, brake fade is a real possibility (managed it many many times in a Landcruiser Shocked ). So far, scratch head, I haven't suffered brake fade in the ffrr and I've towed some challenging trailers Wink On the few occasions that I've been paddling in the ffrr I have not noticed a major drop in brake performance after a dip, which is more than can be said about the Japanese thing.... I had to drive a few hundred yards with my foot on the brake to clear the water Evil or Very Mad Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Yep, I think the technology is proven, just have to wait and see how good the quality of the casting is, IMHO that's the deciding factor in brake discs, if it's poor quality and the metal composition wasn't correct then they will not disperse heat evenly which will lead to warping....

We shall see.... Pete

Cheers Greg...

In October 2014 I fitted a new set of 275/65/18 General Grabber A/T2, well about 17,000miles later the rears were just about shot but the front two had 9mm of tread left!!!

I'm not going to be doing so much motorway cruising now so decided to get some proper off road rubber...

There isn't too much choice in this size and the decision was pretty easy when a mate who works in the industry got me 4 Maxxis Bighorn 762's (where do they get these names!!!!) for 478 fitted, a total bargain especially as these are LT275/65/18, they are 10ply Light Truck tyres and are about 15kg heavier per tyre than the A/T's... I had a set of these some years ago on another off roader and had trouble wearing them out or damaging them, they are real tough....

The GG's were very good when they were new but as they have worn they have picked up lots of sidewall cuts and the rears have suffered from numerous punctures that looked more like splits than conventional punctures... They were good offroad for AT's, they were also starting to get noisy as they wore...

The Maxxis are slightly louder than the GG's but not as bad as the Goodyear MTR's I had on last year...

New and old...

That looks better...

Put them through some very deep sticky mud at the weekend... very impressed, excellent traction and no side slip on a side slope, also good grip on wet rock... Pete

Excellent read Pete. Took me two days, with a few breaks for meals and some writing of my own...
I'd love to look over your motor if you are ever down this way, go to Billing or one of the other shows ? Best Cheers

Frank

This has been an excellent read, you have done so much with the motor.

One thing you mentioned on the very first post was rear screen washer did you ever fix it??

Thank you chaps, glad you enjoyed it... probably be at the LRO show in September, maybe others...

It's appearing in LRO International magazine next month....

The rear washer just needed cleaning out and lasted up until about a week ago, a new pump turned up today to sort it again... Thumbs Up Pete

Front screen has had a small crack in a corner for a while now, been meaning to get it changed as the heating elements have had it as well... one line works out of the 600odd on there... anyway, out in some pretty horrible rain earlier and I noticed water running down the inside of the passenger "A" pillar...

Got home and spoke to Autoglass... asked for a genuine screen, they say they have to get permission off my insurance company (Admiral) and will let me know if they will pay for one. They knew exactly what to do, must get asked a lot....

If not I can pay the difference if I want a gen one...

Lets see what happens..... Rolling Eyes Pete

First screen I had replaced I said I wanted genuine, chap on the phone asked for part numbers etc and took note of them and said no problem. I dropped off the RR at the garage and when I picked it up they had one of their "Shatterpruf" windscreens.

Suffice to say I wasn't a happy bunny, kicked up a fuss and lodged a formal complaint. They assured me it was built to the same standard but considering I didn't pay anything I couldn't really get a refund.

Difficult to say but I was convinced that it was louder than the previous screen.

Second screen I had replaced I made sure to kick up a fuss, had to pay £125 excess and had to wait a day or two extra but got one with a Land Rover logo. I'm still sure it's quieter than Autoglass' own brand.

So keep an eye on them is my advice... Ed

She did ask if I knew if it was an acoustic screen... I haven't a clue... just want what it had in it from the factory...

They are coming here to do it so I will see the screen before they fit it.. I've got to remove the snorkel to get the "A" pillar trim off so it can sit in the garage while they do it....

They said it could take quite a while to sort it out... Rolling Eyes Pete
