Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black
L322 2006+ Air compressor overhaul

Was asked to help with a friends TDV8. The air suspension wasn't working. He reported that he found the spare wheel well full of water.
I removed the air compressor assembly and stripped it down. The inside of the motor is in a bit of a state and the piston was seized in the bore. I managed over 24 hours to free the piston and remove it with the conrod from the cylinder block.

The problem I have is I need to remove the crank from the end of the armature shaft. It appears to just be an interference fit onto the shaft end. The issue is the compressor housing is aluminium whilst the crank end is steel so I don't want to use too much force such as by putting it in a hydraulic press.

As this is on the later 2006 on model I cannot find anyone in the forum who reports having done this before. All the reports I have found relate to the 2002 to 2005 model air suspension.
So my questions are:-
1. has anyone any experience of doing this before?
2. does anyone have a spare compressor for this model for sale working or not?

The reason for removing it is I need to replace all the bearings in the motor and compressor.
In the photograph the red Arrow is pointing to the armature shaft end and where it comes through the crank.

Similar to cheap Chinese winches... you could try heating it up as the alloy expands more than the steel... think I'm at about a 50/50 success rate... good luck Thumbs Up Pete

FORGET all overhaul kits and parts for this horrible Hitachi compressor, special the piston makes problems, buy a new one or an AMK, only the WABCO (2002 to 2005) is one time able to refurbish, also there you need at the second time a new cylinderhead.

Pete, sorry the crank AND armature shaft which I need to separate are both steel so no differential expansion possible. Rehab is for quitters!!!
