Should I worry about my disintergrating spongey bits?

My 2012 4.4 has a great wadge of spongey foam filling- type stuff on either side of the bonnet near the hinges. One has disappeared altogether and the other is in fragments Be good to know what they're for,if they're essential and if they're a DIY fix. As ever thanks for any insights.

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I "think" they are to stop wind noise from that area... mine are long gone, but there again running mud tyres means I can't hear a thing anyway.... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Pete
