TD6 WARM/HOT START PROBLEM...

I know that this question has been asked a lot over the past... has anyone actually figured out what the issue is? I've been having issues for the last year or so... car starts fine in the morning but after any run it turns over but wont fire up, battery goes flat then I put a booster pack on and it will start...the strange thing is it during the winter the problem seemed to go completely ... but now its back! also the car never really gets warm, temp needle goes just past the blue and sometimes makes it a bit further but never to 12 o'clock... Ive got an EGR blank fitted ...

Leak back test done, no problems
Fuel temp sensor replaced
Cam pos sensor replaced

Ive just ordered a new fuel filter, inline fuel pump and the gasket/washer for the HP pump... any other ideas would e more than welcome..

To start with (excuse pun) you need a new thermostat - hours of fun to fit Laughing

Most with the starting problem seem to have eventually solved it by tackling to fuel pump in the tank or the secondary one under the covers near the LHR wheelarch.... .

Probably best to look at replacing both 'stats while you are at it. My experience was that I sorted the main 'stat then a few weeks later was back to change the EGR 'stat. In terms of removing the EGR 'stat, my vote is against. But others have had some success. (I have however been running for several years without the "vicious" fan in place Wink ) .

Ok latest update for anyone who may be interested.... Wink replaced the fuel filter and the secondary fuel pump... Car seems fine!! But.... I did notice what I can only describe as "air leak" noise coming from the area of the fuel filter and the high pressure pump.. I can't pinpoint where it is coming from, it's there when you turn the ignition on I guess something to do with the fuel lines being pressurised, but no fuel leaks! any idea?

I have got a replacement gasket for the HFP but haven't fitted it yet...

Is your "Air Leak" the EGR by pass / blank? only its right in the area that you say the noise is and it has been disturbed recently Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thanks for the reply but it's definitely not the egr blank as I can hear the noise when the engine isn't running , just the fuel pump priming

Are you sure that it's engine related and not the FBH, they can make lots of whistling whooshing sounds, and can come on at anytime. Although it's not that exact area of the engine bay it is the correct side of the car, and could be doing a first class ventriloquists act of throwing the sound Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
