United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Oslo Blue
[SOLD] Range Rover VOGUE, Cream Leather, Oslo Blue

Selling my beloved Range Rover with Cream Leather interior, Dark Wood trim and Oslo Blue metallic paint.

Career change from Company Director to Property Maintenance means I have to swap Laptop and A4 sheets of paper for Ladders and 8x4 sheets of wood. No matter what Man Maths I apply, I cannot justify keeping 2 vehicles so reluctantly I have to sell this.

2 keys both work
MOT December 2016
Non Smoker.
Aircon (Ice Cold) – lovely 
Unmolested example.
Only 6000 miles on 4 new tyres.

BRIEF HISTORY …..
It took me a long time to find this vehicle and it was a reward to myself for a lot of hard work. Having owned a Range Rover before I knew exactly what to look for and I must have seen about 20 before buying this one. It has since undergone a series of preventative maintenance with a view to touring round Europe in it (which unfortunately I shall not be able to do). I did toy with the idea of SORNing it but I know from experience it does not do any good for a car to stand idle. I have Excel spreadsheet with maintenance dates / miles if anyone is as "anorak" about these things as myself.

TOYS …..
Heated seats front and rear all working, Sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, CD changer, sat-nav, memory seats, lumbar support, auto wipers, power fold mirrors, auto dimming rear mirror, cruise control. All work as they should

MILEAGE ….
The car has only done 92653 miles although that will go up as car is in daily use. I have the service history on this car going back to 2005.

GEARBOX and RECALLS …
It has had all its Land Rover recalls done including its front diff recall and new Land Rover supplied ZF gearbox and cooler at 61000 miles.. The gearbox also had its recommended initial 10000 mile oil change before I got the vehicle, as well as another change just last week. At the same time the transfer box and axle fluids were also changed see more about that later in advert …. Gearbox changes smoothly in manual and automatic.

LPG ….
Initially when I searched for a Range Rover, I was looking for a car without LPG, and was a bit sceptical, but I have to say it has been fantastic – petrol performance with diesel economy. The system can be totally turned off and purely run on petrol with the dashboard button. If you need to accelerate hard it auto flicks over to petrol - no loss in performance with great economy.
I have had the LPG serviced by the same company that originally installed it - it now has 8 new injectors, new Pipework and Filters. Apparently the same company fitted LPG to the Queens Rolls Royce in 2000. 95 litre tank in the spare wheel bay. 95 litre tank is the largest you can get for this.

PCV VALVE …..
For those that do not know, failure to change the PCV valve could cause your engine to blow. It is a pig to change (think poor access at rear of engine, bolt heads made of cheese which round off before you can undo them) , so not many have had it done, and even fewer have had it done correctly.
I changed it myself to ensure it was correct, including the small pipe underneath leading to the oil sump. Often this small pipe is "forgotten" by garages as it is a pain to fit and no-one sees it.

AIR SUSPENSION …..
Suspension has no knocking sounds. New front Air Struts (I installed OEM Delphi not inferior Dunlop units ). Air Suspension rises, drops to motorway cruise height and kneels / access mode as it should. I have left it elevated for 24 hours and no problems (no sagging at a corner by morning which indicates a leak).

TRANSMISSION ….
There are no transmission vibrations or steering wheel wobble - it is very smooth at all speeds, particularly 50 to 70mph where most steering wheel shake usually noticed due to unbalanced wheels etc.

LCD …
A common fault of these is missing pixels on the dashboard. So I had the LCD Display replaced (The whole unit renewed not just the cable)

MAINTENANCE ….
Since owning it I have embarked on a series of preventative maintenance with a view to touring round Europe in it. To this end I have only fitted Landrover/ BMW / Branded parts to it as anyone who has ever owned one of these will tell you that due to the size / stresses of such a vehicle, pattern parts just are not up to the job.

A classic example of the lengths I went to was just this week I had all oils and filters changed for the gearbox, transfer box, and both axles. I purchased all the correct oils and filter separately as I do not trust a garage to use the correct (usually expensive) grade of oil. I then took it to the renowned Automatic Gearbox specialist (Neil Smith in Cannock - over an hours drive from me) for them to change the oils for me - and there you can watch them do it from reception. The work included road tests and he confirmed the box and old oils were in good order (ie. old oil was still clean / no burning, metal particles etc etc).

Preventative maintenance - ie items that had not failed but I replaced them to be sure include ....

Front Air Bags (Delphi OEM - not the cheaper / inferior Dunlop units)
Front Brake Pads (Brembo)
PCV Valve including all 3 connecting pipes (not just the main 2)
New Radiator
New Radiator Coolant hoses
GearBox OIL COOLER MOUNTING PLATE (Genuine LandRover)
GearBox OIL COOLER THERMOSTAT (OEM BEHR)
Gearbox Oil Mobil ATF LT71141 (Was called Esso LT71141).
Gearbox Oil filter genuine Filtran unit (LPW000030) + ‘O’ ring
Gearbox Oil Gasket (Genuine Landrover)
Transfer box Oil NV225 1.0L Castrol BOT 26 FMB 1 (STC4861)
Transfer Box sealing washer/bolts IYF500010
Front diff Oil change
Rear diff Oil change
Aircon tube to Evaporator JUE500580 (Genuine LandRover)
Aircon Regas (Ice Cold - lovely)
Alternator Drive Belt PQS000100G/LR051050 (OEM Dayco brand)
AirCon Drive Belt PQS000220G/LHN000050 (OEM Dayco brand)
New Spark Plugs
New Battery,
New Alternator
New Rear Wiper Motor (rather than fix old one just replaced with genuine LR unit)
Air Filter #PHE000050 (OEM Mann)
Pollen Filter

While having the gearbox oil changed I inspected the underside while it was on the car lift. I was very pleased with the underside condition so am happy to sell this vehicle on with clear mind.

As you can see I have concentrated my money and efforts on getting the car in good mechanical condition rather than cosmetic changes. This I consider most important. I would fairly describe the exterior paintwork and interior as a good solid 9 out of 10. It is loved but it is also used (as a car should be - it does no good for them to be standing around).

I would happily go anywhere in this car - it has been over most of the country from Southampton to Scotland.

It also has a removable tow bar and - full sized spare alloy wheel with tyre (almost new)

Also included in the sale
- RSW all comms diagnostics USB unit
- LandRover Roof Bars (screw directly into the roof rather than having to use the add on ugly roof rail - looks so much neater)
- 5 ltrs gearbox Oil (the correct stuff for the ZF box)
- Behr Hella Water Pump, Gasket and O rings (all brand new – this is the OE part)
- Behr Hella Gearbox Oil Cooler and O rings (all brand new – this is the OE part)
- Genuine Land Rover Wiper Relay (brand new)
- Genuine Landrover Front Headlight Grills

Any questions - just let me know.

Test drive possible on proof of driving licence and insurance.

£7500 ono Howard

I have just had a PM with some questions about the car, so will post the answers for all to see.

They are all good questions - I did a lot of research myself before buying.

>..I don't want a world of pain and expense
The first thing I would say is these are not cheap cars to run so perhaps a different type of car would suit you.

>..Which LPG system is it?
Tartarini - a great system - if you totally floor the car it auto flicks over to petrol - no loss in performance with great economy. Apparently the company that fitted it (Autogas NorthWest) was also employed by Rolls Royce to fit one to the Queen's Roller in 2000. It now has 8 new injectors, pipework and filters.

>..What mpg do you get on LPG/petrol?
The most I have seen the guage read 21miles/gallon on a long run, but general A road / dual carriageway / motorway hops are around 18mpg. So with cost of LPG half petrol you are looking around 36mpg which is as good as my vectra but a lot nicer to drive!
Over a long time mixed town / country / A road driving it is averaging around 15mpg (30mpg LPG). I think just round town it is about 12mpg (24 mpg).
So you get Diesel economy with power of a V8.

>..Where is the LPG tank?
Where the spare wheel was. 95litre tank. Simply carry those foam cans for tyre re-inflation as well as small punture kit for repairing nail damage. Truth is in all my years of motoring I have always kept tyres fairly new (change well before legal limit) and have never had a puncture - maybe just lucky.

>..Any rust e.g. on tail gate?
No actual rust, but lower corner of upper tailgate has a slight bubble. However nothing like the newer ones rust - the paint system on these older ones generally seems very good. I never noticed when I bought the car, and it has not got worse. I sprayed inside all the tailgate with ACF (Like WD40 but way better - used by US Navy to protect plane's landing gear from salt spray. Never got any worse and hardly noticeable - will try and get photos later.
Also when you inspect these cars open rear doors and look at lower corner nearest rear wheel, most rust badly there. This has a bubble there on both sides (will get some photos) but I have had all the metal work behind it cleaned and sealed in summer (to ensure it was dry) to prevent further problems. I think I have caught both items just in time.

>..You mentioned on a post last year that the exhaust was blowing - did you sort it?
Turned out exhaust was fine - not blowing - flew through MOT - no advisories.

>..Noisy compressor?
No.

>..Any outstanding issues?
No. However what would I do if I kept the car? - I would change the water pump.
The water pump is fine but I like to change things before they fail and some time in the next 10000 miles I reckon it would be prudent.
I have a brand new Hella Behr one with gasket ready to fit. This is exactly the brand originally fitted (ie. OEM) - as others will tell you the after market ones can be poor and even porous - not ideal quality in a water pump.

>..Does it have stuff like rubber mats, bootliner etc?
Rubber mats yes - no boot liner but I use a tarpauline to protect the floor.

>..How much oil does it use?
Honestly hardly a drop - perhaps every 6 months or so I put a small amount in.

>..What invoices and service records do you have e.g for gearbox change and LPG fitting?
All invoices.

>..Any previous crash damage?
HPI said no - and my own visual inspection concurs with that. Howard

Hi Jord - thank you for the +1 vote Smile

Here are some more pictures ....

The boot (Offside upper tailgate small bubbling - barely noticable - only affects actual upper gate not the wing above light cluster). I never noticed when I bought the car, and it has not got worse. I sprayed inside all the tailgate with ACF (Like WD40 but way better - used by US Navy to protect plane's landing gear from salt spray. Never got any worse and hardly noticeable.

Bubbling NS Rear Wheel arch inside lower corner of door. Common with these cars - not as bad as some I have seen. I have had all the metal work behind it cleaned and sealed in summer (to ensure it was dry) to prevent further problems. I think I have caught it just in time.

I had some more question PM'd to me so here are the answers for all to see.

>..How much towing have you done?
None - the previous owner had the tow bar fitted for his caravan.

>..How much off-roading / green laning / towing boats up beaches
None. I doubt this car has ever gone off-road judging by the inspection results I did the other day when it was up on the ramp for gearbox oil change.

>..Any history of smoking in the car (not the engine, the driver) or dogs as far as you know?
Dogs - not known.
Smoking - Neither myself or previous owner smoked. Also the interior does not have any cigarette smell / smoke stains so my guess it has been smoke free (no yellowing of plastics/fabrics etc)

What's the story with the 4 tail pipes - looks a bit weird ?
>.. Fitted when I got it. Totally standard exhaust, and this is welded on as extensions where the standard exhaust would normally finish. I quite like it but not everyones taste. An angle grinder would take them off in about 10 minutes (30 seconds if your forum name is Haylands!)

>..What toys does it have
heated seats front and rear all working, sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, CD changer, sat-nav, memory seats, lumbar support, auto wipers, power fold mirrors, auto dimming rear mirror, cruise control. All work as they should.

>..Do the HDC and low range gears work correctly?
All present and correct. I periodically use them and it is a good idea especially for the low range engagement as they are not often used and tend to sieze unless used.

>..Do the variable ride height settings all work correctly and automatically lower at motorway speeds?
Motorway speed lowers correctly. Also the car kneeling / access mode etc works and you can activate it before you arrive which looks quite cool as you glide in to a halt. All work - no problems.

>..Do you know why the gearbox had to be replaced - is it the ZF one?
Yes ZF one. I think the reason follows something like this... (forum member RRPhil will no doubt correct any errors)
Landrover sold these cars with sealed for life boxes. However gibven their operating environment they should have regular oil changes to prolong their life. I also understand that when these boxes are used in other vehicles they do have service interval. The funniest thing is when you crawl under to do the oil change you can have a good laugh at the sealed for life land rover sticker on the box.
Many Diesels had the GM box (considered weaker than the ZF) but both were closely matched to the engine output meaning there was not much margin if the box was stressed or built slightly below par (Friday night / Monday morning boxes!)
So some failed early and some go on for longer livesd, and ot just so happened this one gave up at 61k.
However K Motors in Preston fitted it and it had its 10000 mile oil change before I bought the car. I have also just done its oil and filter change at renown specialist Neil Smith Cannock. He checked the old oil coming out (for metal particles / burnt friction lining fragments and oil discolouration due to heat etc, and declared the oil to be in clean condition. It took 5 litres to chaneg it, so I have a further 5 litres for the next change - can sell with the car.

>..Would Any special tools. / bits and pieces that you have come with it?

- Behr Hella Gearbox Oil Cooler and O rings (all brand new – this is the OE part)
