The greasiness you mention is typical for coolant, so yeah, I would agree with the thought that its the heater matrix.

Update : its still leaking sporadically.....not had the time to do anything car related as been away on work for the last few months. However its still on my list of a few things to do...... but the good news it did sail through its MOT last week with no advisories! |

I should imagine you can do insitu I had the trim off last week and if you disconnect pipes in the engine bay that should give you enough room good luck |
