hgv m6

Hi, as some of you know, the m6 close to me at j14, j13 down to j11 has been widened to 4 lanes.
now I travel this area sometimes and have noticed the hgv's using 3 lanes of the 4.
is this legal or are they allowed to do so.
Please no hand bags, pistols, or shotguns at dawn, just asking. Laughing
greg.

It depends if the inner lane is a filter lane and if it is then yes the 3rd lane is ok but not the 4th.

3 lanes only allowed to use lane 1 and 2.
4 lanes only allowed to use 1 and 2.
4 lanes where the 1st one is a filter lane then the 3rd is allowed as its classed as the 2nd main lane.

If the above is understandable. Range Rover quotes.....

I stand corrected:

The types of vehicles not permitted to use the right hand (offside) lane on a motorway, which has three or more lanes open for use by traffic travelling in the same direction are:

1) A goods vehicle having a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes,
2) A goods vehicle having a maximum laden weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter
3) A passenger vehicle which is constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver the maximum laden weight of which exceeds 7.5 tonnes;
4) A passenger vehicle which is constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver the maximum laden weight of which does not exceed 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter.
5) A motor vehicle drawing a trailer
6) A vehicle which is a motor tractor, a light locomotive or a heavy locomotive.

There are exceptions to this rule, which are:

when it is necessary for the vehicle to be driven to enable it to pass another vehicle which is carrying or drawing a load of exceptional width.

For a vehicle to change lane during a period when it would not be reasonably practicable for it to do so without involving danger of injury to any person or inconvenience to other traffic. Range Rover quotes.....

Watching an elephant race on a motorway, is so ridiculous. By this I mean, a long vehicle, is somehow able to think that the 'toe' slipstream he is receiving, means he can now overtake the lorry in front, at exactly the same speed, in parallel lanes, and the near side elephant, does not have to ease off, and let him pass, so, they then very slowly draw alaonside, and about ten minutes later, the middle lane lorry realises, the other three Lorries, in front, means he won't be able to turn off for the M6, and then has to give in, or become stranded, and trying to jump back in. Whilst my caravan, is getting a tank slapper, as I ride the buffeting winds from the fronts of lorries! Evil or Very Mad

doesn't matter what the law says it won't be enforced ,if you travel in the early hours you may notice all the lorries are in the first lane apparently it's because theres less idiots on the road who think 50mph is the motorway speed limit L322 2008 vogue

any lane except the outside lane if 3 or more but most of the time the inside lane is the quickest when its busy,as long as people merge properly
