Right... cue laughter .. but from what I can see Bothe early and middle aged l322 use cannus for at least part of there control units (gearbox dme etc) so what's stopping me splicing the canbus wire into my canbus?

Rolling with laughter
Different canbus protocols, frequencies, bit length, bus speeds.

it's a bit like me and you can hold a conversion in english, replace you with a russian and I wouldn't have a clue what he was saying. Current

They do, I suspect as its tied into the integrated headunit it probably uses the wake signal to operate

Unless you know someone that can make you a box that will ping out the correct canbus strings when you want them then I'd guess the control module won't be of much use. You'd also need a 2007 era car to attach a canbus sniffer to and extract the data from.

The system isn't a land rover system though, it's borrowed from the newer Ford yank 4x4s and its also on lincoln navigator.

I'd suggest investigating what the 3 sensor wires in the motor actually connect to.

some pinouts in here 'body and frame' section then 'auxiliary step/running board'. ignore the control module pin locations as they are probably different and i'm sure the LR has more. Current

thesis getting more stupid now but I wonder if I could tie them in with the powerful mirrors for testing as I'm guessing these have power for a certain time then cuts

oh dear oh dear lol

Ok got it all through...

There a cable for each step with 5 wires... one that goes to the button two to the control unit and two which go into an existing control unit and then the existing cable plugs into that. as they are male and female first test was to leave them plugged into each other and just try using the button manually to see how I get on...

also it looks like that plug goes into the VUX500480 unit... anyone got a pinout of the main plug for that it is the fm receiver module which is strange for it to plug into it must just be using it for can bus access...

Ignition live pin would be good as the button override waits for this apparently

Right chaps ...

Have been doing some research today and the control unit looks like a no go without a can conversion - I am tempted to test wiring it into the cannus bit from what you guys are saying bmw can and early lr can will not communicate or will differently?

If this is the case what I am thinking of doing as taking a trigger off the door locks as I have mine code to lock over 10mph and unlock in park.

What I was wondering is for the (motor???) that lifts the door locks do the have two lives and ground to make it go up and down if so this will be fairly easy - I will use a timer relay for sat 3 seconds or however long it takes to deploy the steps I will then have another one to undeploy them and I will then have a changeover relay to flick between them... any thoughts?
