L322 TDV8 "Key in Ignition" message when removed,

L322 TDV8 2007 Vogue

Since recharging a dead battery the message "key in ignition" appears even when the key is removed. The gong sounds when I open the driver's door as if the key was still in the ignition. Systems such as the A/V etc remain on and it continues to play with its fans/computers etc even when the key is removed. I can't lock the car with either the fob button or with the key in the door, only the driver's door locks. The engine starts and runs and switches off correctly.
I've tried two on-line methods to reprogram the key fobs but neither worked.

Any help and/or a recommendation for a garage in central Scotland who could assist me would be much appreciated. I've already had a very bad and expensive experience with a well-known LR dealer in Stirling so I need someone competent and honest.
Thanks in advance.
Jim Thumbs Up

Thanks for the swift response and the recommendation. What do you mean by a battery reset, I couldn't find a procedure in the manual?

Apologies if I'm being a bit dim here but I can only find references in wiki to resetting defect codes on the message centre. I don't ever get Test Nr01 message, after reporting "Control Check OK", it goes to "A/V Off". I'm, of course, not in a position to follow the correct procedure for disconnecting the battery since I cannot turn it off and remove the ignition key for the required 2 minutes since it doesn't acknowledge the removal of the key.

I received a suggestion that the problem may be something sticking inside the ignition barrel so it didn't acknowledge the removal of the key. I sprayed switch cleaner into the barrel whilst wiggling the key, solvent based not oil based as the latter can leave a sticky residue in such things and ultimately make matters worse. This seemed to work and the system now acknowledges the removal of the key. The pairing procedure with the ignition didn't work until after I'd carried out the procedure with the driver's door to activate the key fob. Then the ignition setup procedure worked and I was able to lock and unlock the car remotely with the fob. All this with the ailing battery recharged. I've a replacement battery ready to go in tomorrow, weather permitting, so I'll report back as to how that goes.
Another respondent suggested that having a heavy bunch of keys hanging on the ignition key when in the lock could be the source of the problem so I've removed my bunch. From the scratches below the ignition it seems previous owners had keys dangling so there may be something in that.
Many thanks for the replies. Very Happy
