United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

the car is in the paint shop having its bubbly arches seen to.

TBH this one is not LR fault, at some point in it life it has had a small patch repair to the rear quarter, and the welds have started to rust, strange repair as when it was stripped back the repair patch was only about 1 1/2" square surrounded by filler, and rolled under the lip about 3mm.

We have had the inner arch liner out and the inner wing in perfect so is the lip which usually rusts..... Im not seeing how they managed to damage it Rolling Eyes

anyhow, cutting it out is a proper job and probably a bit unnecessary as I think that a good rust treatment will sort it out from the outside and we are going to dinitrol the inside of the arch thought the wheel arch grommets.

So it should sort it out for a few years!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

hope it will keep it at bay for a couple of years until it needs to go. The proper solution is to strip out all the inside of the boot and cut out and weld in a new piece, but for a couple of small blisters that seems a little extreme. The body shop very sensibly said they didn't want to weld on it without clearing out the rear quarter just incase it set something on fire.

So we are treating it filling it and painting it. Hopefully it will be good. If it returns I will have to take the big choppy up step so it seems that paying ฃ300 for them to have a go like this first seems a decent compromise. Should it return it will be a bigger Job but very doable, I could probably strip most of the electronicals myself and the rear quarter trim, to make sure they didn't break anything..

on another note, they had a golf R in there. brand new. written off by a lorry driving over a can of expanding foam on the road next to it......Foam on every panel, so the whole car needed painting, and some of the interior had foam on it too along with the wheels and brakes. Insurance just wrote it off. I reckon it was easily salvageable with the right solvent. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Well I can definitely say mine hasn't had the turbo drain mod.

Body shop has moved it around a few times, oil in the second turbo, was expecting it, bit smokey.

Couple of stabs on the throttle all clear again. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Just passing the dealers yeasterday, I spotted why would be my ideal 405.....

Black leather and Corris Grey 4.4sdv8 vogue with my favourite wheels and a electric tow bar and ugly kid glass. Priced reasonably but slightly leggy for its age. Whistle Whistle There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Would it still be "leggy" in three years time given your annual mileage? + no turbo drain worries?

Had a look round it...... looks nice.......Ryan, I know, just a Vogue, Rolling with laughter which is what I have at the mo Thumbs Up the additional bits on a VSE don't bother me.

Anyhow.

Walked away before the sales man got to me. Got back in mine, which is still nice. Big Cry as much as the 405 is a nice car I can think of a few things I'd rather spend 24k on. Just about to start an extension on the house, so swmbo won't be impressed if I spend the new bathroom and kitchen fund on another Range Rover...... but the itch has definitely started. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

That's it then Mark, there's no way back when that itch starts Laughing

Agree re Vogue. L322 was a Vogue and the L405 is another [well spec'd] Vogue.

They're all nice anyway whether V Westminster VSE SC or AB.

Getting into the L405 now (not literally, I'm typing on a laptop Laughing

Just ordered new rotary cutting and polishing pads for it... things that those most sales people at their plush main dealerships have no interest in Mr. Green

Thumbs Up
