New Key

Gday.
Got a key from Dan at Duckworth's. Cut, all nice and shiny new, I've synced it so it locks and unlocks my doors. It won't start the car!
It was always my understanding that when you send Dan your VIN the key will arrive cut and programmed and after you sync it it will be ready to go.
Ive read lots of posts on the forum which tell me the same.
Ive asked Dan this question as well, his reply is that I have to take it to my local dealer and get them to program the key to the car.(2003 L322)
Ive done this here in Tasmania, Australia at both our dealers and my local independent with no success.
Both my local dealers have been in touch with Jaguar Rover Australia who say that the key when ordered with the VIN comes cut and programmed to the car. Is it possible that when Dan ordered my key it was only cut and not programmed?
So I have a variation in information from JRA, the forum info, and Dan at Duckworth's.
Id be really grateful if anyone can shed some light on my problem and help me make my new shiny key from Dan turn my car on.
Thanks heaps. Jim. Series 1 1948 (oldest Land Rover in Tasmania)

Are you saying the 3 dealers couldn't program the new key?

I've been going through a bit of key fun myself with an 06 but this has the later immobiliser to the EWS3D in yours and my 04.
It is my understanding that the car can have 6 keys or maybe 10, but each key is activated or deactivated in the cars ECU so if you lose a key you can turn off that key in the ECU to stop somebody coming back to pinch your car.
My Faultmate will pair a new key providing I have an existing paired key.
I'll try and get a screenshot of the pairing process for your year from my Faultmate

Had a chat to Dan from Duckworth's last night and he told me that he got his wires crossed. Keys from 08 onwards need to be programmed by dealer!
The key he got for me was indeed supposed to be programmed!
I actually got it working after speaking to Dan last night.
I did a hard restart. It always fixes a huge amount of problems, and must have reset the rolling codes and number sequences of the keys. What ever it did who cares, it know starts the car. Series 1 1948 (oldest Land Rover in Tasmania)

Good news, When you say hard restart do you mean disconnecting the battery and waiting 20 minutes or whatever it is then touching the battery leads together ?

I have never tried that, i wonder if it would have cured my problem when my immobiliser lost sync with the engine ECU.
i have had to do it via diagnostics up until now, well worth keeping in mind.
Thanks for concluding the thread
