Tdv8 3.6 6 speed gearbox issue

Hi

Just after any thoughts while I wait on appointment with zf agent..

I have a 2008 tdv8 3.6, when driving between 50&60 mph if I accelerate causing a kickdown I get a judder, lift off and accelerate again and all is fine..

Doesn't happen in sports mode and car drives fine if kickdown isn't used.. I.e. Can accelerate hard from lower speeds and gearbox changes through the gears without issue..

Car has done 112k...i have changed the gearbox oil twice in last 15k, everything was fine until about a month ago..

Errors codes being logged are attached...

Im waiting on a couple of specialists to come back to me and will be taking the car in after Easter...

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what might be wrong etc... And likely costs involved.. I've already prepared myself for the replacement or rebuild of the box...

Any advice always welcome..

Tia
Al..

Thanks for the reply..

A new torque converter? Hmmm so gearbox might be OK then?

It does. Puzzle me why it only happens when I kickdown in about 4/5 gear.. Current Family:

Try first resetting ENGINE adaptations (NOT gearbox adaptations) with the IID tool. Let the car re-learn and see how it goes.

This was a complete fix for harsh kickdown with mine, and it's done lovely slurry downchanges for thousands of miles since.

Watch the revs? 1800-2000

That’s when mine happens, usually on an incline or with the caravan on the back! Mickey is usually not wrong! 2014 vogue se

I'll give the engine adaptations a reset thanks.. How did yours come about?

I can't remember the revs.. Will look out for them.. Towed our van the other day and it happened when coming up a hill... Switched to sport mode to avoid it happening again..

Just exactly that, pulling uphill with the caravan on the back!
Sometimes it does it solo, haven’t tried the sport mode! Mickey reckons TC. So will have it replaced as I want to keep my car, replaced the turbos last year! 2014 vogue se

If I did an engine reset, would it forget the Alive remap?
Not that would, way out of my league Thumbs Up 2014 vogue se

Adaptations? I doubt very much that would affect a map.

re: How did mine come about. The answer is I don't know, since it did it from when I bought the car at 9 years old. It was fine in manual mode but would try very harsh downchanges when approaching kickdown on the accelerator. Enough to make you wonder if the gearbox had lunched itself.

I was warned off resetting the gearbox adaptations but thought I'd try engine on the offchance (since it appears safe). Lo and behold it seemed to fix the issue completely. Now mine is the 4.2S/C, but the gearbox is the same as the 3.6TD so I recon it's worth a try.

Incorrect gear ratio faults require further investigation than just a judder...

Yeah, that fault is worrying. Mine never logged any faults whatsoever. Solenoids?

Not tried any updates as yet..

I'm off to a zf agent tomorrow afternoon to get their opinion/diagnostics.. Fingers crossed they can try a few things... I just want the thing working properly...

Been speaking with bristol transmissions and their thinking is that the e clutch is fubared... And it works in sport mode because of the increase in pressure.. They suggesting the worst which is gearbox rebuild £3000 all in... Only is they are miles away from me..

Anyone recommend any places around Lincolnshire or Luton that could look at it? Most of the land rover indies around here won't touch Gearboxes.. Current Family:

@cam-tech-craig...

How can I check if any updates are needed or available? Garage only job? Or can I do something with my IID tool even if its to at least check current version? Current Family:
