'trim' at top of door/window - fixing costs

i've got these trims to replace the originals because of rust 'bubbling' under the finish

these are the about 1/2" black trims that fit at the door/window junction

been quoted £252 + VAT at gordon lamb chesterfield to FIT!!!

others 'informed 'sources say its lever off the old and push on the new!! - less than 5 minutes per side

if you want me to take my pants down - please ask first!!

well looking at the factory workshop manual the price quoted by main 'stealer' may be correct?

a) turn up for work

b) use coffee machine

c) open box of components - manager to sign off

d) spend 30 minutes putting the world to rights and if Man Utd won - manager signs off

e) get the work experience guy - sorry he's in the toilet sniffing from a gas canister! - manager signs off

f) look at landrover schedule times for the job

g) say - rich prick! - thats the manager!

h) sorry got to stop - staff have now gone to customer relations tutorial - manager is bonking customer relations 'female'

i) staff come back and nothing changes - manager has passed out int the toilet - too much wine!

j) oops the scratch on the car was already there

k) job done

customer goes to pay - snigger

What doors are the trims for? And how much did they cost?

the trims are at the 'top' of the door where the glass starts - if that makes sense?

they have a rubber coating over a steel frame

water gets underneath and the steel rusts leading to unsightly 'bubbles'

cost me about £30 each from Nick at Yeovil Landrover with 'forum' discount

my grand cherokee had exactly the same problem with similar trims

my jeep mechanic has just been and had a look

and he agrees with the main dealer - its quite a technical job!

timed - it took him 2.5 minutes to remove and replace one trim!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but it needed special tools - a hand!

with simple finger pressure the old trim lifts off - place new trim in position and just push down - job sorted

BUT

he wants the car for half a day - needs to check a few things that main dealers ignore - eg air suspension lines etc (until they need to be replaced)

said however that its a good car and he's going to do the gearbox oil change

he like many others does not believe in 'oil for life'
