battery disconnected a few weeks - no crank no start

A 4.4 NAS L322 came in some 5 weeks ago for oil leaks, bushes and some aircon problems.

Hence they took the dash apart to get to the evaporator.

Today the boscalled me.. no start with a nivcely charged battery.

Found several unrelated errors, cleared them.Nothing.

There is 12V at the 3 relevant engine ECU wires in ignition pos 3. (C0331)

but no start.

So I thought it has Alzheimer and connected my Hawkeye Pro to the diagnostics to resync the engine and immo. No problem. (still haven't found it in the GAP but I'm probably blind)

Then I went trough all live data.

Every single thing si fine but the starter motor says in gear and disabled..

Been checking a lot of other things like fuses. Nope.

Any thoughts welcome

isnt the inhibitor switch a common failure? at least ive seen it mentioned on here quite a few times. on the side of the transmission.
as you says the starter is not being engaged because it thinks its in gear.

Thank you for the answer.
Don't think so the relay clicks but naught on the black wire coming from the immo in ignition position 3.

In the end I made a supply from battery to the relay and had an immediate success.

But what the heck is happening? Any ideas why it won't give the immobilizer output

Thank you for your fast reply.

Here is the thing, i got it started connecting the relay supply to battery + .
But that is not the solution.
All years get registered in the instrument panel, in the transmission ECU and in reality.

The transfer behaves weird.
It shows on the instrument panel but not in the transfer ECU.

It keeps saying it is in low.
Also the immobilizer keeps its disabled status

Do you have a P showing on your dash saying you are in park ?
Rave system description and operation manual would tell you what parameters need to be met for the EWS to permit a start.
I’m away so can’t look it up for you but if the immobiliser link wasn’t programmed it wouldn’t start as the fuel and ignition would be cut off but it would still crank on the 4.4. As posted above above, it sounds like the transmission thinks it’s in gear.
Ignition switch is another possibility but I need the wiring diagrams which I don’t have either.

As I said above yes all gears appear on the dash!
EWS is not the culprit as it started fine when bypassing the black wire going to the relay.
But the Transfer does not appear to work correctly.
I read through the 2003 library description and the NAS and standard Spanish LA wiring diagrams 4 times.
I have checked every connection under the bonnet EXCEPT for the C1528/C1529 which I can't find because it is not listed in my library
Did I mention the aircon guys were at it and Reeves out the dash?
The boss didn't involve me till it didn't start because I was stuck in a p38 as usual..

The transfer box motor is a common fail but I don’t know if it would prevent cranking, you can calibrate the transfer box motor easily but can’t remember how but a google will tell you.
You can check voltages to various fuses in case you have an ignition switch problem, I can’t really help much until I can see the wiring diagrams

Sorry, but in the early ones, there is no calibration. You are probably thinking of a later model or an RRSport.

The transfer changes the gears properly, the display on the dash works. BUT it doesn't appear in the diagnostic, it keeps saying low_stop and nope.

sounds like you know more about it than me so I am not much help to you.
If you did want to calibrate the shift motor on the transfer box the procedure is below but i wouldn't do it if all is working ok.

thank you i knew this as an unjam trick for those who never use their transfer.. learned something today.

just pulling out the levers in the centre console, lots of corrosion but still can't make the switch change status
