My local Indy quoted me £379 for an Insp2. When I asked what oil he used, he said GM Semi synthetic. I queried why he didn't use fully synthetic, and he said (quote) Range Rovers never had full synthetic- only the new ones.

That really is shocking. So obviously after you finished beating him around the head with the owners manual what did you do?

For quite a few years now I have provided my own Castrol Magnatec when my RRS's or FFRR's went to the local dealership, they had no objection to that after I had complained that I thought I was being fleeced over the price of having what was allegedly Land Rover branded oil. Thing was I had just followed a bulk Castrol road tanker into the site so no way was I being supplied with "Land Rover branded oil in 5 litre and 1 litre packs sir". Once I was even charged for the LR oil, even though on the job sheet it was clearly stated that I would supply my own - as they couldn't find the oil I had supplied they gave me a 5ltr can of LR oil and knocked the cost of the oil change off the bill.

I think if you ask the service manager you will have no problem supplying your own oil for their spanner monkeys to use (proving they have used it of course can be difficult - I ask for the empty cannisters to be returned along with any parts replaced)
When my 90 goes in for a service I cannot see how the Indy can be making any profit, they use genuine LR parts and LR branded oil purchased from the same dealership as I take the newer cars to and the Indie's labour charge is 1/5th the cost of going to the main dealer! 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I can't see anything in my handbook about fully synthetic oil. Just says use 5w/30 5w/40 5w/50 or 10w/40 oil meeting specification ACEA. Checked the oil used in service before I purchased car and it was helix 5w/30. This fits handbook but unsure whether it's fully synthetic??? FFRR TD6 HSE

My local Tesco store has Castrol Edge 0W-30 at £10 / litre which I assume is unsuitable, a shame as the same oil in Halfords is £16.99 / litre.

Tesco also have Fully Synthetic Magnatec 5W-30 at £24.99 / 4 iiters. Whats the ifferene between Edge and Magetec?
