Odd tyre wear

My 2012 L322 4.4 is showing odd tyre wear... ONLY on the LHS..!

What are your thoughts... The LHF is the worst (in two pictures) and the other is the LHR. The wear is on the outer edge only.

Pirelli Scorpion 255/50/20

New tyres ordered today (Yokohama Geolander)

Thanks in anticipation,
Mark.

Alignment ok? Cornering/roundabouts at speed can do this from what I’ve read on here.

What drew you to the Yokohama’s? 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)
2005 4.8iS X5, blue/black
2011 4.4 tdv8, black/black (gone)
2003 3.0d X5, Oxford green/black/manual
2021 p575 SVR, BR green/vintage tan

It’s not alignment as far as I can see.. with out of alignment, one gets similar wear patterns on tyres on the same axle...

I like the roundabout cornering / roundabout theory.. I had this in mind, but wanted to hear the same from others..

Re the Yokohama Geolanders... I had a Land Rover Series 3 Stage 1 Safari in Australia that I put a set on, they were amazing..! I also ran a set on an Austin Healey 100 that we prepared for the Peking / Paris event a couple of years ago... Over the entire event, they had NO tyre problems whatsoever...! That sort of sold me on the Geolanders... Smile

Sadly the imige won’t load correctly..

outer shoulder wear on the front is typically lower suspension arm / bush.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong

Greg:
Mmmmm my two front Conti's wore like that, had it 3d aligned last year then had a full set of Pirelli's on for this years MOT.
Would that bush also affect wheel balance as mine still has a slight steering wheel wobble....as it did before with the old Conti's even though they're new & been balanced? 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

not sure about wobble.
but it is a wear part i.e. consumable with a finite life.
it's relatively easy to get a good look at it

I'd agree that wear in that arm's bush can cause uneven tyre wear. I've just replaced both mine as they were looking less than perfect. That bush doesn't wear out all that quickly, not as fast as the lower arm's ball joint.

However, the arm you've photo'd is actually known as the upper arm (not lower), despite them both effectively being lower arms! Very Happy
