Side Step Rubber - Inside or Outside?

So, just fitted new steps… should the rubber trim go on the outside or inside of the silver plastic trim ?

Old ones had it on the outside….. but looks tidier with it tucked in….

I think the rubber should be tucked in, mine did before I removed the steps.

Thanks. It’s now tucked in on my drivers side…. Some of the passenger side is putting up a fight 🤣
