Td6 l322 cuts out with fuel injection system fault

Hi all

Got my first real fault on the Range Rover it’s the M57 3.0 litre bmw engine and as it’s gets to operating temperature it cuts out. It’s done this several times and it’s not at any particular point in the Rev range. Every time before when it’s happened it has just cut out however today when it happened it flagged up the fuel injection system fault on the screen then continued running but on 5 cylinders. These are the faults that have come up everytime it’s happened.

1260 low pressure fuel side plausibility
1190 fuel rail pressure plausibility.
Cause:
Maximum pressure exceeded
Minimum pressure for engine speed too low
Rail pressure increase
Regulator valve at limit and pressure too low
Regulator valve jammed.

I have already changed the pump under the passenger wheel arch. However should the fuel be a steady stream from the pipe going into the fuel filter? As mine is coming out in little bursts? Even with the new one. Even changed the fuel filter and that’s made no difference.

In-tank pump? Part No WFX000160. The fuel injection warning on the dash is triggered by the pressure sensor on top of the fuel filter 2007 TDV8 VSE

Clear pipe after fuel filter shows more air than fuel being moved to the injectors. Cycled the ignition 10 times with no improvement. Won’t start not sure where the next place to look will be?

You have 3 fuel pumps, one in the tank I mentioned before, one by the nsr wheel and the high-pressure pump on the front of the engine. If the in-tank pump is not pumping, in a lot of cases no fuel will get to the secondary pump. A full tank of fuel can mask the problem but a low tank full will stop the flow. 2007 TDV8 VSE

I had a similar problem with mine and it was the easy to get to fuel pump in front of the rear wheel . Took about 10 minutes to replace and never had the issue since.

Should have said in my last post that the in tank pump has now also been changed. However after doing some testing last night I pulled off the hose on the outlet of the i tank pump, the one that feeds the secondary pump and cycled the ignition. No fuel coming out. So secondary pump isn’t being fed.

Now I’m wondering if I don’t full understand how this pump works or the layout of the tank.

It’s a saddle tank and part of the job of the in tank pump is to pump it from one side to the other not sure what side it goes to or from.

I bought 20 litres of diesel and poured 15 litres in the inspection hatch side and could see that the pickup is fully submerged. My thinking was that that long piece of tube that goes to the left side of the tank was the pick-up. However I’m now not sure.
When I put the remaining 5 litres of diesel in it went in the actual filler and when the ignition was cycled there was fuel almost immediately coming out the fuel pump.

My understanding is it syphons from the left side to the right. It is a bit of a pain to replace the unit however I have done it, taking it apart and just replacing the electric pump in the whole unit so it can't be that hard. Both of the tank covers need to come off and arms in. There is a video on youtube for a petrol car I followed. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Yes managed to do this hardest part was trying fit the left hand pipes into the grooves of the tank. Also the stupid pinch clips on top of the actual tank itself. Fingers crossed this was the problem and I don’t now found issues with the high pressure side.

Cheers
