Anyone had the dreaded Diff problem?

A friend of mine warned me about this, then it happened to him, he's in an 02 model, well out of warranty, anyone know if/when its going to become a recall issue?

Q041 upgrade.

Renewal of the front prop and a rework of the front diff to remove the spline setup(BMW) and replace with a prop bolt format.

any questions?

I'm guessing the dealers will not be proactively asking owners to come have it done but on a piece by piece basis when they actually go BANG.

Dealers will be contacting their databases, but it probably wouldn't harm you to mention next time you are in that you would be interested in being part of the 'Reassurance Program'.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday on a seperate matter and was asked if I had received the letter about the Assurance Programme (which I hadn't)

They told me that I would be in the next quarter's list of owners who will be contacted and told they will replace the driveshafts FOC and while my car is in they will be giving me a new TDV8 for the day.

now THAT I will look forward to!

(That's if I still have it then.... Crying or Very sad )

My dealer called me and I am booked in for next week, and a nice new TDV8 for the day.

After driving the dull and dismall Discovery 3 I am REALLY looking forward to this one, however, I just know that it's going to seal my love affair for the Range Rover for good and I will want one. Big Cry

Diff? Trans failure?

Just read these threads and started wondering. I just had a breakdown on my '03 RR TD6 on a deserted highway in Northern Spain, having driven all the way from Norway. It started with grinding noises from the gearbox, apparently, seemingly from the front end of the car. The info in the dashboard read "Select neutral". Continued in a rental car, and gor mine back via transport a week later. They didnt say what work was done other than it was "good to go". Front seat wrapped in Land Rover plastic and everything looked all right. But the noise and feel of the gearchanges had really changed. Much smoother shift, and seemingly faster acceleration. Anyone had this happen/or has any clues? BTW, tha dashboard now reads "trans failsafe prog". Doesnt sound good, or?

I'd be getting on the phone to the dealer to ask exactly what they did. Looks like if it's showing errors again that the problem has been moved rather than rectified Confused

Update

Right. Have sorted some of this mess out. Talked to my insurance company who took care of the car when the diff churned out. The car was fixed, and they fitted the new flexible joint, much to my surprise, since this was a spanish dealership. Even more to my surprise, the didn't charge. Not me, and not my insurance company. The parts and work amounted to just over €900. They brought the car back to me near Malaga, all the way from Pamplona.

The car brought me safe all the way back to Norway, on the trip we drove just under 8000 kilometers.
Still no Sport mode, though, but I'm guessing this is just electrical as everything else works as a charm.
